  1. I just purchased 2 night 5* Salzburg 7/16-18 via Hotwire at $129, and got Sheraton. The amenities shown matched almost everything listed under Sheraton's, so I was pretty sure. Lowest published price was $146. Tried PRICELINE too, and went up to $120 but didn't get it. I did go through BiddingHelper.com for the purchase. ... ling
  2. Saw Hotwire offering $114 for a 4* hotel Started bidding at priceline $80 - Universal City 4* (not accepted) $90 - Universal City + Burbank/Glendale 4* (not accepted) $99 - Added Studio City 4* (accepted) Total for 2 days: $233.14 including tax and fees Date 6/22-24.
  3. I got this for 1/2 - 1/3/09 for $91 + tax. Total $112.15. Can't remember how many times I tried, but tried USE with some other areas with no 4 starts 4-5 times and finally got it. Was countered offer for $22 more when I bidded $85 but didn't take that.
  4. I bidded $85 through Priceline, for Resort and got Hilton Spa and Golf on 11/7. Actual date we stayed was from 12/13 - 12/16. It was a very nice hotel, not fancy, but clean and quite new. I would rate it as a very good 4 star. They gave us a room on the 4th floor with Balcony, facing the swimming pool and beach. My friend who booked a room through his diamond membership got a room 2 floor above us, and next door, with similar view. So we got a pretty good deal.
  5. I should have said similar or better (as also rated as 5 star by website such as Orbitz or Expedia). For example, Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach, Le Meridian, Ritz-Carlton). Not really trying to avoid but I know the regular price for these are about $100-$125 (before tax). So, would not be a good deal if I ended up getting them through bidding for the similar price. Westin, Hyatt Regency, Hilton, Omni. Will be there from Dec 13 till Dec 16, 2007. Thanks.
  6. I read previous posting for hotels in Cancun and found quite a big difference between the hotels available for Priceline under the Resort category. Is there any stratergy to get JW Marriott or better hotel? I am willing to pay up to $150 including tax. Thanks. ... ling
  7. I stayed here from Jan 1 till Jan 9, 2006. Moved from Melia White House which I stayed two nights before. They both rated as 4 stars. Paid $100 + tax for MWH probably because of new year's eve, $70 for Holiday Inn for the 8th days. I have no complains about the price because I bidded late and found out several other hotels mentioned in this forum has been fully booked (through their websites, and Orbitz). The room is certainly not as good or classy as MWH. Room is plain, no nice decor. Clean enough for me. They don't give small botels of shampoo, lotions, etc. They mount the shampoo/body wash on the wall, like at Hotel Ibis which I happened to stayed in last year in Madrid. The staff at the front desk is not the nicest. I think they look tired. It's a big hotel with a lot of group coming in and out, and airline crews. I don't blame them and I only need to talk to them once after checking in because the phone in the room stopped working. The concierge service is nice but their information is not always accurate. For example, I was told it was "Bank Holiday" on Jan 2nd, and the train operates on Sunday schedule. But later I found out it was incorrect. Also another time a guy confidently told me the wrong time the Underground station opened, and the time the first train arrived. So, double check the info with another source would be a good idea. The surrounding area is very nice, with many places to eat. Fast food, English, Italian, Indian, Singaporean, cafe, etc. The Sainsbury supermarket is 10 minutes walk away, very nice place to shop for snacks, drinks, etc. There is also a small mall, with another super marker, next to the tube station. 110v and 220v outlets in the room, but still good to bring socket convertor so you can use the 220v outlets for your universal powersupplies. TV channels are good enough. I especially like the London channel, lots of tourist infomation. Pub downstair good place to catch soccer games. They play EPL and La Liga, and maybe other matches.
  8. This is a hotel with a non-eye catching exterial, but very pretty interial. Beautiful carpets, crown molding, etc. The standard room is very small but very clean and pretty. I think it has the "class", as good as many 5-star hotel in the US. I paid $100/night + tax through Priceline on the 30th and 31st of Dec 2005. I was worried after reading some bad reviews at tripvisor, but now totally agree with the good reviews. I wasn't asked to upgrade, probably because of the date I checked in. I don't think there would be many vacancies. The staffs from those behind the reception desk to the housekeeping people were all curteous and they dressed up really nicely. The location is not far from the town area at all. The Grand Portland St. Underground station is just 50 yards away. The circle line is very convenience. Or change at the Baker Street Station to the Jubilee line to go south faster. There is a mini-market near the station for snacks, drinking water, etc. Within walking distance is the Regent park. Although it was the middle of the winter when I was there, I was suprised to see the green grass, and flowers. The London Zoo is at the North end of the Park too. I moved to Holiday Inn Kensington Forum for the rest of my stay in London because I couldn't get anything for under $70/night at the Marble Arch area. I would say Holiday Inn is at least half a star worse than MWH.
