  1. Thank you. I didnt mention the zone, since I was continuing the conversation and replying to your part of the message but should have quoted the part. Will keep that in mind for future. Thanks Thanks. Yes but I am trying to be very near to her work as my wife is not keen on walking much and is unfamiliar with chicago. We dont plan to go out much given the little ones. The four south of the river and the sheraton are ideal. I will keep checking HOTWIRE and PRICELINE EXPRESS and if everything fails, will hold onto my back up hotels that I had booked much earlier. thanks for your suggestions again. asda
  2. Thank you both for the replies and researching the matter Yes, there seem to be more hidden amenities under the green tab. When i checked just now, there is a 4* for 103 as follows: Pet friendly Indoor pool(s) Smoke-free rooms Fitness center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business center Self-service laundry Internet access Accessible for visually impaired Accessible for hearing impaired Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Accessible parking Roll-in shower Any ideas which one this could be? Thanks AaronJB on the suggestion of the rivernorth section. Hotwire's rivernorth is much smaller than the priceline one so thats a good point as I was also looking at priceline express but the amenities are few to guess from. I was looking at the hotwire downtown MP GP region as there are 4 hotels just south of the river (swissotel, fairmont, radisson, fairmont) in a close pocket and was hoping to get one of those as she would walk to the place. In the Hotwire rivernorth portion i also see the following: 4.5* $96 Boutique hotel Smoke-free rooms Fitness center Restaurant(s) Business center Internet access I presume this is the palomar? That would be a little further. Lastly i noticed that hotwire indicates that the last person got this hotel (eg the felix for $75 with Free Internet, Boutique hotel, Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access Spa services, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired ,Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Wheelchair accessible, Accessible bathroom, Roll-in shower). Is this response typical and accurate? thanks again asda
  3. Hi, We are looking for hotel identification or suggestion for a nights stay near the hyatt regency chicago for 2 adults and a kid. My spouse has some work on the 11th very near there and id prefer a place she could quickly walk to such as the hyatt, swissotel, fairmont, radisson blue. The hyatt and swissotel are sold out. I have a backup at sheraton for around 200 (including taxes). I came across a few choices on hotwire that im trying to identify: 1. 4.5* Love it, 95% recommended for $100: Business center, Fitness center ,Internet access, Pet friendly, Restaurant(s), Smoke-free rooms Accessibility: Accessible for visually impaired Accessible for hearing impaired Accessible path of travel 2. 4.5* $167 or 107 (hotwire easy tab on the bidding helper site says 107 as HOTWIRE BOUTIQUE HOTEL): 85% recommended: Boutique hotel, Business center, Internet access, Pet friendly, Restaurant(s), Spa services Accessibility Accessible bathroom Roll-in shower (i presume this is the Burnham) Interestingly on biddinghelper under hotwire easy tab this is listed as 107, while after the usual clicking of the HOTWIRE link on the page (not the hotwire option under bidding helper) i came up with something very similar costing 167. The hotwire option of bidding helper gave me no results. P.S. I am using firefox but may have some underlying add ins. 3. 4* $135: 85% recommended Business center, Fitness center Indoor pool(s) Internet access Pet friendly Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Self-service laundry Smoke-free rooms Thanks for your assistance. asda
  4. thanks, i didnt see a CQ under 3* in the list for mag mile, so wasnt aware there was one there too. I guess the features are identical to the CQ listed in the loop. asda
  5. Hi, I have started looking around for a couple of nights in chicago in the last week of november in the city. For the stay from 11/28 to 12/01, i came across a couple of options. The first was a 3* for 140 in the loop with fitness, restaurant, landry and high speed internet access for 140. I believe this is the club quarters chicago The second is also a 3* for 140 but in the magnificent mile wacker drive area with the same features of fitness, restaurant, laundry and internet access. Which hotel does this one match to as i cant find a perfect match. Could it be the holiday inn mart plaza? As most people know, this is the week of a large conference (RSNA) and rooms are hard to get unless u look into the suburbs (as i did last year when i stayed near midway...i have written a write up about it before). I would like to stay closer this year. The conference is at mccormick place. thanks, asda
  6. :) 4* Marriott vancouver pinnacle 4/29- 5/5/06 $125/night Well after weeks and months of trying hotwire and priceline and spending countless hours screening thru hotel sites, finally a day before the trip i got my bid accepted. Offered 120, got a counteroffer, refused it and added a freebid and upped it to 125 and voila got it. In case anyone is wondering why the price is so high, there is a big conference going on this week and most of the hotels are booked out (on Orbitz the marriott was at 316/night , and their website claimed it was sold out when i asked for the entire 6 days). Anyway as i have realised, just keep trying (especially with the 24 hr rather than 72 hr rule), rooms open up very late. Thanks thereuare, i used the savingsbarn.com link. asda
  7. thanks for both your inputs. will let u know once ive decided asda
  8. hi thereuare, April 30-may 05 vancouver near the pan pacific (which is adjacent to the canada place in downtown west) Il be booking this time thru the savingsbarn site :-) By the way, if i do keep checking hotwire back and forth thru the same links, does it create a negative issue? As an alternative, i can log onto hotwire's site for the time being to look for prices and when im about to finalise i can use the savingsbarn link. Presently: 5* restaurant, pool, fitness, spa, nearby golf, business ctr $157...i guess this is the sutton place hotel 4* (customer favorite) boutique, restaurant, pool, fitness, spa, kitchenette, laundry $138 3* suite, pool, kitchenette, business 2* shuttle, restaurant, fitness, internet, business, laundry 97 Im only looking at 3 and above star ratings. Not sure what the 3* suite refers to P.s im still trying to guess whether if i did bid on priceline whether i would be close enough to walk to the pan pacific. thanks, asda
  9. hi everyone again, I am starting to scout for a room in early may in vancouver where i am attending a conference. As the conference is being held in the pan pacific (which along with the fairmont is sold out...atleast the conference rooms), id like to be in a hotel that is within walking distance. After looking at hotwire and priceline, ive realised that priceline is harder in vancouver to isolate the hotel region as it includes almost all of vancouver downtown, some parts of which may be too far. Hotwire has a vancouver downtown west that is smaller. Thus i may be forced to only use hotwire. In either case, are there any suggestions anyone may have on hotels around the pan pacific. Presently hotwire offers a 5* in dowtown vancouver west at 157 that i think is the sutton and has a restaurant, pool, spa, fitness, golf, business center. A 3* has a suite, pool, business, and kitchennette for 96. Not sure what hotel it refers to. There is also a 4* listed as a customer favorite that is listed as a boutique. Any vancouver tidbits on this vicinity would also be useful thanks, asda
  10. :) Just got back from LA at the hyatt. Checked in around 3pm without any mention of priceline. However when we looked at our rooms, i realised that i got a corner room. It wasnt bad except that the room was designed a little different without a bath tub (had a shower room instead) and closet which doubled as a place to leave my suitcase was smaller than the second room we had. It wasnt a big issue for me so i didnt ask to be switched. Otherwise the rooms looked very new and renovated. The front desk chaps were pretty friendly at all times as was Gary in the concierge. Location. As blueskies mentioned before, its right adjacent to the century city mall which has a nice foodcourt and a couple of sitdown restaurants. Otherwise u are a fair distance from the real beverly hills/ rodeo drive etc and do have to drive. Oh and parking is pricy here at the hotel. Valet is 29/day and self parking 20. A few tips for the rooms, odd number atleast in the 30-59 range face the avenue of the stars street and have no view...there is construction right across the avenue. These rooms appear to be king size beds. The double beds are on the opposite side of the hotel and likely face the garden that the hotel has. Number 59 is the corner room (personal experience) Self parking is right besides the hotel but u wont have in an out privileges. Drive past the lobby and there are directions to it. If u get in after 6pm, u can park at the parking lot that is on MGM drive (its right behind the hotel) and is 15 dollars. well good luck !
  11. hi blueskies, thanks very much for the links. look forward to it. once i get there il also decide if i can walk to some of the places in beverly hills/rodeo or drive. got a rental car already. asda
  12. hi there, actually the amenities were what i mentioned in the past message, maybe my message wording has been confusing. But thanks for all your prompt replies. Anyway i wanted to let u and other members know that I successfully bid for a 4* in beverly hills for 105 (on priceline) and landed with the hyatt century plaza. Hope its good :-) i was hoping for the hilton but i hear this is good too. It was a little more than what i initially aimed for but hopefully should be worth the extra 100 (two rooms for 4 nights). BTW I started with 100, got a counter offer, used a rebid and upped to 105. asda
  13. thanks, u are right about the offers presently. Sorry, as far as the 3*, i may have mixed up breakfast for restaurant (in addition to pool and fitness) and presently for the 2.5* (for 89 ) does have breakfast, pool and internet like u said. i was looking and there is a courtyard marriot in a priceline win listed as a 2.5*. However it doesnt offer free breakfast while the residence inn beverly hills does. I wonder if this is the same one offered here thru hotwire. There are more than one 3* on priceline listed as wins but i am wondering if this refers to the hyatt? ofcourse i still dont know if either of these are any better than the b v plaza hotel that i have for 97 thanks again asda
  14. thanks. I had a suspicion u would wonder why i posted in a diff group..it was because when i first started i posted in the priceline group regarding the bids there. Subsequently, i wanted to talk about the hotwire availabilities and thus left a message there ( as there are different threads for priceline and hotwire LA). I wasnt sure if i should maintain a similar thread or move to hotwire...and i did the latter. thanks for the links. As far as the hotels on hotwire, as i had mentioned within parethesis in my previous post, the 2.5* has breakfast, pool while the 3* offers breakfast, pool and fitness. The 3* may refer to the carlyle (though on the list, pool is not mentioned). there is no 2.5* listed on the hotwire winning hotels in beverly hills. asda
  15. hi, ive been looking at beverly hills, santamonica and manhattan beach areas for a 4 day stay for two rooms. I came across a discount for a stay at the beverly hills plaza hotel on wilshire drive for 97 thru travelzoo. Its features seem pretty good with all suites, fitness, pool, and located not far from ucla campus but with a 15$ parking (i guess the entire area has that problem). In comparison on hotwire a 2.5* room with breakfast, pool and room is at 89 ( i couldnt locate a 2.5 on the hotwire list in beverly hills so im not sure what hotel this is) and a 3* at 125 (breakfast, pool and fitness). Since the beverly hills plaza hotel for 97 isnt on priceline or hotwire win lists, im not sure how it compares with these. on Orbitz they surprisingly only list it under 2* despite its stated amenities. Any ideas or comments about it and in comparison to other hotels in the same area? Am i better off with it rather than the hotwire choices? thanks, asda
  16. thanks. I will look into that. The santa monica area does sounds great. Ofcourse with priceline it may be hard to know where in that area i may land up with but as well as its safe im fine. I was told to keep away from holywood as parts of it are not safe and also downtown LA as theres not much to do there. thanks, asda
  17. Hi, i am not familiar with LA but as a result of its location (friend is flying in from across the pacific!) we decided to meet up at LA in midmarch (12-16). I am looking for a place that would be fairly nice to hang around (ie outside the hotel) and walk around, lunch and dine out, and maybe check out some neighboring places ( i hear the ucla campus is nice). I plan to rent a car for the time there so i may even drive out of LA for a day but the remaining time i plan to be in town. given the number of areas that priceline has, i was wondering what areas would be reasonable. I am planning to book two rooms for 4 nights. Looking for 2.5-3 star, under a 100/night. Ive been told beverly hills, westwood, west hollywood, santa monica are some places i should look for. Ofcourse some of these areas are probably pretty pricy. We could stay near the airport, but wasnt sure how safe that place was and if it would put us at an inconvenience to find things to do even with a car. Hotwire areas are a little different but probably similar overall. thanks in advance asda
  18. i thought id add my stay for future occupants. It was as expected the basic extended stay with a moderate sized studio type room with attached kitchen having the refrigerator, microwave, stove set, wash basin. Bed wasnt the greatest. Internet facility was available for $4 for the entire stay but was wireless only (didnt have bridge available). Location: Fairly close to the 290 freeway which goes east-west in chicago. So reaching the freeway is not a hassle. However keep in mind that traffic in the morning towards the city is pretty stiff. It took me about an hour to get to downtown from my hotel but in the night (around 9pm) i could make it back in 35 mins. Overall for what i wanted (near a freeway, safe, inexpensive, no parking charges), it was good. A slightly better quality of the establishment would have been even better. and oh, they do not have a shuttle to ohare which is not very close, so im not sure if this would be good for someone trying to get to the airport asda
  19. Extended stay america, elmhurst...total for two days with taxes etc 80.75 This hotel may be a new addition to the hotwire list as i couldnt find it from the amenities before i chose it from the ohare area. It lists a suite, kitchenette and laundry as amenities. Does not list a shuttle from the airport (ohare). Apparently is closer to 290 rather than 90. Il add more once i stay there, but i didnt want a 4 or 3 star as some of them have very high parking charges and im driving, not flying to this area. hope this helps
