Therefore, waiting till the last minute may not be a good stratege for this place, 3-7 days in advance may be a good window. I consider this hotel to be a better ESA in the Silicon Valley except when I had to settle for a smoking room.

As a also most permanent San Jose Priceline hotel resident, I wish I had chance to partake in this discussion. Looks like You've got one of the best deal in the Silicon Valley. All 2.5* and 3* hotels here, with the exception of Larkspurs Landing, offer choice of King or Two-queen room, even at Priceline price. The choice is not available at 2* or lower where extended stay hotels abound. Being a resort area, hotels in Santa Cruz and Monterey make money in weekends and offer good deals during weekdays. On the contrary, hotels in Silicon Valley make money during week days and give rooms away in weekdends.

I have extended this good deal to 03/01. My February 2007 has been a good month on Priceline.

This is a relatively new Cortyard, with 7 or 8 story high, and better appointed than other Courtyard in the Silicon Valley.

Dear zbenye: We might have run across each other in some hotel corridors. Yes, I do have a home in WA state. But work keeps me away from home, luckily San Jose is my top choice to be away from home. I have not planned to be here this long. You are aware that it is cheaper to stay at hotels at PL rates than renting a furnished apartment in the Silicon Valley. I envy you too for the opportunity to spend time in Palm Spring, let alone at that enviable rate. There are at least 3 ESDs sround San Jose. The one in South San Jose has bigger and better appointed rooms but skimpy breakfast. This one near SJC has a better location and breakfast. I have not been at the one near NewPark Mall. Priceline has sent me to Townplace and ESA near NewPark Mall for $32. WzDancer

This ESD is less than 2 miles from the SJC airport, rooms are far superior than Homestead, and comes with full breakfast. I started bidding $31 for 1* and added $1 for each re-bidding till accepted. Hotel website lists $125 as the best available rate.

But $31 for 5 nights was accepted. Looks like they do not like to take in Priceline bid for too many nights. This is a new Priceline low for me in the San Jose area. However, I checked into Extended Stay Deluxe near San Jose Airport for $29 per night through Hotwire over the holidays. I was unsuccessful to under-bid Hotwire.

I can offer you advices for San Jose. Since 1/11 is Thursday, you may not get my usuallyweekend deals, but worth trying. Beverly Heritage (Milpitas, 3*) may accept $36, Country Inn (Sunnvale, 2.5*, full breakfast buffet) may accept $41, Hilton(Santa Clara, 4*) for $45. Specify 2.5* if want to have these places. Extended StayAmerica will grab your offer if you specify 2*. ESA in Milpitas or South San Jose may take you in for $32. Stay away from ESA Santa Clara unless you are a train buff.

I forgot to mention that this hotel still serves full breakfast buffet, scrabled eggs, ham or sausage, cold and hot cereals, bagles and danish, but no waffle iron. Breakfast is much better than other ESD. However, the room is not as spacious as other ESDs I have stayed.

We have stayed at same hotels around San Jose many times. You know the market as much as I do. I did not rush to book the $29 room. I did as you would, tried PL from $25 and upward. But I did not receive any bite at $27, that when I booked this hotel on HW. It is getting back to the normal HW rate of over $40 after the holidays.
