  1. Sheraton Palo Alto is on your Hotwire hotel list as 3*. Amenities: Pet friendly Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center Laundry Facilities (self-service) High-Speed Internet Access Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower
  2. It was a PRICELINE bid. Did I put this win in the wrong place? Since Priceline doesn't give you a list of amenities prior to bidding I'm not sure it'll help anyone. Here's the list of amenities they sent with the purchase confirmation: 24-hour front desk Accessible facilities Business center Complimentary newspaper delivered to room Complimentary newspaper in lobby Concierge floor Express check-out Free parking Laundry/Valet service Lounges/bars Pool Restaurant Room service Safe deposit box Spa Telephone
  3. I meant to say 4*. Can't figure out how to edit the heading or delete the post, sorry. Priceline's Express deals listed a 4* hotel in San Jose for $90 so I bid $70 and got it on the first try. This is the first time I've gotten a hotel other than the Fairmont for a 4* in San Jose. Everything is very expensive that day so I was surprised to get this deal.
  4. I don't know how to send a "PM" (private message?) to you. When I look at the hotels lists in the city I want none of them are clickable. I'm using firefox on a Mac if that matters. Help, please!
  5. I forgot to write down amenities before I made purchase but it's currently the only 4* hotel i know of in South San Jose on either PRICELINE or HOTWIRE.
  6. Aloft is the new Westin "hip, young" brand, they converted this W to Aloft this year. The remodel consists of paint and minor re-upholstery, the decor is juvenile and the music in the elevator is younger. They might have restaffed because now the service is poor. They downgraded the place but right now Hotwire is still calling it 4*. It's more like 3* now and that's only if they can get the service back up to the former standard. Our room came with no wastebasket anywhere, no book explaining the hotel services or room service menu, dead batteries in the TV remote, only 2 sets of towels, no robes (W had robes), no glasses made of glass (now you get plastic cups) and no honor bar or snacks to purchase. We asked for robes in case the Hotwire room was furnished more cheaply and they said they didn't have them. I suspect the higher priced rooms might still have them. We asked for wine glasses, drinking glasses, plates, utensils and two extra sets of towels (I specified that included washcloths and hand towels.) One woman delivered them but it took her 5 visits to bring it all, two of her trips were to correct errors which included chipped wine glasses. It's hard to believe the exact same hotel which was pretty nice as the W could suddenly drop in quality so dramatically. Hopefully Hotwire will get a few reviews that reflect the change and downgrade their rating soon.
  7. Thanks, I'll check out that site. We arrive late on 6/7 and stay through 6/10. Does anyone have an opinion on Britt Scripps Inn on Maple at 4th? It's 2 blocks from the West side of Balboa Park, 1 mi north of the Gaslamp Quarter and advertised for $245/nt through Kayak (includes full breakfast). I know I can't bid on Priceline for it but it's so close to the park and looks very nice.
  8. Thanks for the great advice and amazing tools! I used the A AB ABC AC etc method to very good result. It made the bidding easy so thank you very much to the person who made the long post listing out the bids so I didn't have to figure it out. I used 4 extra zones without something in my star rating and got the Omni on my 7th bid. Of course the Hotel Lists and Tips post and the Priceline Maps tool were a great help, too. The three worked together perfectly. I'm excited to have a very nice hotel in a good location waiting for me with a very, very low price.
  9. Does anyone have a suggested target price for the US Grant? I found it yesterday on Priceline's published hotel deals for $168, I think. Today the lowest price offered is $198 (missed it, darnit!) I was hoping to beat $168 but maybe that's hoping for too much? I'm not stuck on the Grant. It's that I want to find a hotel near Balboa Park/Gaslamp Quarter but Priceline's inconvenient map of Downtown San Diego/Harbor Island means if I bid on a 4* hotel there I could end up at the Marina, a 1.5 mile walk from Balboa Park, our main destination. So...I would like to bid on the US Grant which, I believe, is the only possible 5* hotel in that area. On your fabulous maps tool I can't find the US Grant on the list of winning bids. Perhaps nobody has reported a winning bid there in a very long time and it didn't make it on to the list the tool draws from? If I don't get the Grant, does anyone have a suggestion for a 4* hotel close to Balboa that might be worth paying the published price? BTW - Hotwire isn't showing any 4* hotels in the Gaslamp Quarter North and no hotels at all in the Gaslamp Quarter South. The highest is 3.5* and it's in Downtown/Harbor Island which is similarly shaped to Priceline's and includes the Marina. Thanks, everyone! And a special thanks to betterbidding.com for their amazing tools and great advice to be found on these forums. I used Priceline once before and had very good results using the A AB ABC, etc. method described on a post on your forums to re-bid and got a great hotel in SF on my 7th bid. The advice made a very complicated procedure relatively easy to use.
