  1. 3* Tuscan Inn at Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco Check in: 6 November 2007, Check out: 10 November 2007 Price: $89/night Total with taxes and fees: $418.39
  2. This hotel is in a dilapidated state. I paid $70 for the night of 17 Feb 2007. The design of the rooms are out dated. The staff don't care about the customers (although the door man was very helpful). I had requested the lady at the front counter to get me a room on one of the top floors and she said that they could only give a room on the 6th floor (The hotel has more than 20 floors). I am pretty sure they did this to me because I was a priceline customer. Right at the time you walk into the lobby you can sense the emptiness. I hardly saw any customers around the lobby or in the restaurant. Don't go to the restaurant; it's expensive and the food is horrible. The bed in the room was hard as rock with only two pillows (A 4* hotel room usually has 4-6 pillows). The comforter was repulsive. I didn't check their business centre. The location of the hotel is also not good (you have to walk 2-3 block to get to the nearest subway station). No way this hotel can be classified as more than 3*. Be careful when booking hotels on priceline: you may get stuck with this hotel!! My experience was made worse because I had stayed at the Marriott Bloor Yorkville the day before. The Mariott is so much better and it's a 3.5* hotel. Avoid this hotel like the plague! I wrote priceline about my bad experience at the hotel and got this response (I didn't expect such a disinterested reply). It's such an irony that their "renovated rooms" are the ones I think are outdated. I wonder what's their definition of "renovated". -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We apologize that you were unhappy with your hotel accommodations. 5. Got it. I will keep trying. I will definitely have some backup, as it would be too bad if I arrive there and don't get a good place to spend 5 nights. Do you have suggestions for prices on 3* hotels in Universal? I will like to try this option as well, since I got time. The retail rates for the 3* listed in Universal are: Crowne Plaza $149 Holiday Inn I Drive $139 Doubletree $99 Sheraton Studio City $139 Sheraton World resort "no rooms available for the dates" Wyndham resort $147 I have observed that there's a higher chance of getting the Wyndham resort in the area, when bidding for 3*. Do these 3* resort-hotels charge some kind of resort fees? If yes, then that could spoil the savings for staying in a 3*. Once again thanks for the help from you and the forum members. This forum is an indispensable tool for getting close to a winning bid.
  6. I tried to bid for Universal for a 4* for upto $85 with no luck. I think I will follow the advice of LoneStar. It does appear that I am bidding "too early" and might not be able to get a good price for the hotel. I will apply your strategy for bidding on the 4* sometime in Feb and then again in May (if the previous attempt fails). I hope to get better rates then. Thanks for all the help. I checked out the Priceline maps and they were very helpful in locating my potential hotels for the stay.
  7. Yes, the rates I provided were for the dates I wish to stay in Orlando. My preference order: 1) 4* Universal 2) Resort Universal 3) Resort Walt Disney My strategy is to get the 4* or resort in Universal first. Since, there are only three such hotels in the area, if I fail to get any of those I can move to the Walt Disney area. Price and zone are equally important. For example, I can pay $100 to stay in a 4* or resort in Universal. However, I won't like to pay as much (or 3/4 of the amount) to stay in a 3* in the same area. So, if all option fail for $100 in Universal, I can switch to Walt Disney. I hope this clears everything.
  8. The conference hotel is Sheraton World Resort. I am flexible upto $100 per night. I had checked that during June, 2005 people had stayed in Peabody for $72-$90. People are currently getting this hotel for $75. I checked some rates for other hotels/resort in the two areas: Universal Studios Renaissance (Resort) - $189 JW Marriott (Resort) - $559 Walt Disney Vicinity Marriott World Center - $229 Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress (Resort) - $219 Hilton in the Walt Disney World Village (Resort) - $169 Gaylord Palms - $239 I would try my best to get the 4* or resort. However, in the worst case I can settle for a 3*. However, I have noticed that most of them are far off from the conference hotel. Also, I don't want to stay in a Holiday Inn etc.
  9. I need help on bidding for a 4 * or Resort hotel in Orlando, FL. Here are the details. Place: Orlando, FL Dates: 9 June - 14 June, 2006 Require hotel with minimum rating: 4* or Resort Area: Universal Studios -Sea World or Walt Disney Area Willing to pay at most: $65 - $90 per night Additional Comments: I am visiting Orlando for a conference being held in a 3* hotel on International Drive (also called I-drive), Orlando. The conference rates for the hotel is $125 per night. I would like to take the opportunity to use PL and stay in a better hotel at a lower price. In my case I am restricted by the area I can choose to stay. The conference hotel is located in the "Universal - Sea World" area. So, I would like to stay in this area. I have noticed that there are two resorts and one 4* hotel in the "Universal - Sea World" area. The "Peabody" 4* hotel would the ideal place for me to stay as it is closest to the conference hotel. The other two resorts (JW Marriott and Renaissance) are little far off and not located on I-drive (so, it would be hard for me to use the I-drive trolley). In essence, I would like to bid for the Peabody hotel (or a hotel that is conveniently located on I-drive). I have seen that the bid rates vary from $70 - $80 for this hotel. Resorts in the area come at a higher price (around $100). The Hilton resort in WDW comes at $60-70 but would be far off from my point of interest. Any help would be greatly appreciated. PS: My bid for the "Universal - Sea World" area for $67 and $73 for 4* were rejected.
  10. Won a bid at $80 for 4* Marriott Copley Place (Aug 18 - Aug 20, 2 rooms). I tried a couple of prices below $80 (incl. the downtown area), but in vain. I see that most of the winning bids for the Copley area is for this hotel and at $80. I had even tried $79 which didn't work. HELP: I would appreciate comments on this hotel as well as the Copley area. I am visiting Boston for the first time. Any touristy info would be greatly appreciated. I am thinking of parking my car in the Boston Common garage and then using my feet and public transit to visit the attractions in Copley and downtown. Let me know if that is a good idea. NOTE: One thing to note is the rating of this hotel. Priceline calls this a 4* hotel, while on the hotel website it shows a 3 diamonds rating by AAA. Other travel websites (e.g. Expedia.com, Travelocity.com, Hotels.com) say this is a 3* hotel!!! $80 for a 3* is a rip-off and priceline appears to be cheating its customers. All comments are very welcome. Thanks betterbidding.com :)
  11. I stayed there for the night of 8 Aug (2 rooms). The next day I had to extend my travel plans. So went to priceline and again won the bid for $65 (again 2 rooms). I saw a post for 4 Aug and someone had won a bid for the hotel at $42 (extremely cheap!!). The hotel is excellent :) For Sept/Oct I guess you can bid at a lower price (because of the off season).
  12. I used CIBC Aerogold VISA card for priceline; it didn't work. I guess many others have faced the same problem. Next, I used the Citibank Mastercard and it worked. Just wanted to share this info. I posted my full Canadian address in line 1 and line 2. For the city, state, and zip I used some random places (Maine worked for me).
  13. Bid accepted at $65/night for Westin Nova Scotian, Halifax, NS. Started out bidding at $60 for the Dartmouth area for 2* hotels. That got rejected and was offered to bid once again. This time included the Halifax area as well for 2* hotels (I don't know whether I included 3* hotels this time) and bid at $65. Bid was successfully accepted and priceline said that my offer was upgraded to a 3* hotel. BTW, Expedia quotes CAN $190 and the Westin sites says CAN $209 for this hotel. My offer amounts to around CAN $80!
