Was looking for 3+ stars in Glendale or Brown Deer areas. This was the best price point for these days of travel...other HOTWIRE hotels were around 100-110, Expe.dia bookings were not much more, and I had no time to play the Price.line bidding game. Came to 90/night all in after taxes. (Expedia was $110 for the same property, not sure if that included taxes.) Was looking for just one night, and needed to stay relatively close to the Warner and Universal Studios and Griffith Park. The 4* was well below the 3* and 3.5* offerings in the same zone. Last-minute planning for a trip to Milwaukee north side. Price offered was $68 per night for 3 nights, came to $250.28 after taxes and fees. Needed a cheap, clean room for one night upon arrival in Kona. $81 for a 2* which gave us the Kona Seaside. It has decent reviews and should fit the bill just fine. Used HOTWIRE link. For comparison, had been getting $380/night at this resort (on Expedia, Travelocity, kayak), 400 at the Fairmont next door. Oceanfront Laundry Facilities (self service) Pool(s) Golf Nearby Restaurant(s) No 2.5* hotel was offered in my search results, and no 2* hotel was listed in your Hawaii Hotwire list. So that made me a little confused. But I took a chance that this was the Castle Hilo Hawaiian and had been downgraded, or that after booking I'd be given the 2.5 anyway. But it was Hilo Seaside, a 2* but not on the HW hotel list. A little disappointed b/c the same hotel is on Priceline list where I'd expect a cheaper result, and I had the time to bid. Oh well, so it goes. Mostly looking for close and clean, and this will fit the bill. Used HOTWIRE link.

Best retail rate I found before bidding was $288 (after taxes and fees, Thrifty or Dollar) Got same results on Orbitz, Expedia, Hotwire, and Entertainment Coupon book with discounts. Started Priceline bidding at $14 ($210 after taxes and fees). Denied. Raised by $1 per day, until 5th day I was at $18/ day ($249 w/ t&f). Then was offered transparent PRICELINE link for a Thrifty fullsize rental at $214 after taxes and fees. That price was about halfway between the total costs on my earlier $14/d and 15/d offers. Took it. Strange they didn't accept my higher offer on the table, but happy with the result. Used the PRICELINE link.
