1. Started at from the forum's Priceline link @ $87, used free re-bids appx. $8 apart. Price on the Kimpton website is something like $70 or more higher.
2. Opened at $80, turned down offer at $105, used two free re-bids at $5 intervals and got accepted. Total was $111.18 with tax, parking was $26 ($13 for a hybrid car). Lovely hotel, very nice sheets and towels, great location. Best normal rate was $180ish with tax for AAA. Could have been the same hotel as on PRICELINE EXPRESS for $140ish. Very happy with my win, and I did use the PRICELINE link.
3. UK departure taxes are unbelievably high. Even if you're just connecting through London. I believe they are over $100. Actually, such high fees might be a good way to determine that one is in fact connecting through Heathrow.
4. I was lucky enough to get a 4* for $145 this April, though I know that's not as busy as the September period. I didn't see any Priceline Express that appealed to me last I looked, but I'll check this evening. Hopefully the America's Cup will be decided by then, and prices may drop. I will remember to use the board PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links that time.
5. Would like Union Square West but anything in the city proper is OK. Opened with $146, added $5 each time with my free re-bids, ended up getting rejected at $176, which hurt. I'm hoping the America's Cup wraps up soon, or else I will take a 3.5* on Hotwire with 100% recommendations for $206+tax. That's the way the opaque bidding crumbles sometimes.
6. Bid 130 @ 4* to start in Union Square West, added Japantown, Civic Center, finally Union Square East, raising price each time. $176 with tax, compared with $207 for best rate on the Parc 55 website. Not a screaming deal, but still a decent savings for twenty minutes work.
7. I was impatient with this one. I didn't even get the usual message about having only a slim chance of being accepted.

9. I should note that the room is a "petite queen," and hotel is nonsmoking. They offered an upgrade to a king room for $30 a night.
10. Hotel Nikko San Francisco 4 Star Union Square West - Nob Hill 222 Mason Street San Francisco, California 94102 415-394-1111 Whoops, left the hotel name out of my topic. Sorry. Started bidding at $71, raised $5 each time. Best price on kayak is $137 with tax, as opposed to $101 for PRICELINE.
11. Courtyard by Marriott Cleveland Airport South 7345 Engle Road Middleburg Heights, OH 44130 440-243-8785 Offer: $36/night Total for 7 nights: $302.12 Offer of $35 was rejected for 3* for CLE Airport South and CLE Airport Vicinity. Added 2.5* and $1 to bid, accepted. I've stayed in this hotel twice around Xmas, and this is the cheapest price I've ever seen, by at least $20. The Courtyard is a very nice business hotel, clean and quiet. Thanks Better Bidding!
