  3. Thanks 'Rump' your info about Nice was excellent. In fact, I just copied it and emailed it to them ... of course, they will first take a second or two to wonder about the name "Welldone Rumproast"!!! I only have Venice left. I bid up to $140 for a 5* knowing it would most likely get rejected and it did. Also, for 4*'s I have bid up to... $100 Venice rejected. $90 Lido de Venice rejected $80 Mestre rejected. I had to stop and double check with them if they were willing to stay in those two other zones and will resume bidding tonight. I actually only have two bids/chances left. TOBB lists the 4* Holiday Inn @ $100 in Mestre and Expedia has a decent 4* Laguna Palace for $115 in Mestre as well. Holiday Inn website: http://www.sixcontinentshotels.com/h/d/HI/.../hd/vcerr?irs=y Laguna Palace website: http://www.lagunapalace.com/site/LagunaPal...naPalace_en.asp
  4. I got this for some friends.... I first bid up to $140 for a 5*. Than, $95 for central Rome. Finally, Vatican City was the only other acceptable zone ... and my first bid of $80 was accepted. If not, I would have bid $100 for both zones!!! The reviews state that this hotel tries to 'walk' customers... I hope my friends do not have problems!!! Vatican City Via Crescenzio 78 Rome, Italy 39 06 687 23 61 Your Offer Price: $80.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 3 Subtotal: $240.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $34.99 Total Charges: $274.99
  5. Got this for some friends... $100 was my first bid and I didn't have any free rebids to play around with!!! Nice 1 Promenade Des Anglais Nice, France 33 4 97 03 44 44 Your Offer Price: $100.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $200.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $20.99 Total Charges: $220.99
  6. I bid this for some family going to a wedding. Ottawa has four zones which combined to give me many free rebids ... plus, they were not picky about where they ended up. I started at $25, $28, $30 and at $32 I got a counter-offer to add $8. So, I than bid $35, $37 and got it at $38. I considered the 4* Arc which sometimes goes for $40 BUT I remembered that Expedia TV commercial where the girl was picturing her old-fashioned parents frustrated in a hip/trendy hotel. Mine would also not appreciate the boutique qualities of the Arc and my aunt would probably steal the bathrobes!!! Ottawa 402 Queen St Ottawa, Ontario K1R 5A7 613-236-1133 http://www.radisson.com/hoteldirectory/hot...D07200307210310 Your Offer Price: $38.00 (US dollars) Number of Rooms: 2 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $152.00 (US dollars) Taxes and Service Fees: $8.94 (US dollars) Total Charges: $160.94 (US dollars)
  7. I bid this for some friends who wanted a 4* or better in "Left Bank" ... and this hotel is listed to be on the left bank side of the river so I hope they like it. First bids... up to $140 for a 5*. Than tried 4* $90 for St. Germain - Latin Quarter - Montparnasse and got a counter-offer to add $22. I started a new bid for 4* $90 Eiffel Tower - Grenelle - Montparnasse and got rejected. I rebid $100 for both zones and won this hotel. Reviews don't look great BUT after doing a PL vacation search, they actually say that the hotel is under-going major renovations in 2003. Eiffel Tower - Grenelle - Montparnasse 61 Quai De Grenelle Paris, France 33 1 40 58 20 00 Your Offer Price: $100.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 3 Subtotal: $300.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $29.14 Total Charges: $329.14 Now, to bid the rest of their hotels...
  8. Thanks WillTravel. I just went though all the zones in PL and Paris has only one with a 5* - Champs Elysees which should make bidding easier (I will double check about where left bank is). Rome as well lists 5 zones with only one having a 5*. Nice will be a bugger ... as you said only one zone. Venice has 3 zones with two offering 5*'s. Amazing, they have a Holiday Inn listed as a 4* there!!! Now, I have to find out where these train stations are???
  9. Some friends of mine want me to book their trip so I was hoping for any suggestions about hotels for the following areas... I have no clue about them and would appreciate any help. I have to start bidding tonight!!! "Paris three nites July 24, 25, & 26 Nice two nites July 27,& 28 Rome three nites July 29,30,& 31 Venice three nites Aug 1,2,3 Please try to get a 4 star property as close to the rail station as possible without sacrificing on the quality I am willing to pay up to $150 per nite and if that gets me a 5 star than well and good. In Paris if you can find us something in the left bank."
  10. I did a quick search on there ... NYC to Toronto and all the prices were $1100+++ Delta.com every single week has amazing weekend specials ... and Toronto for 3 nights starts at $222 ... 5 nights for about $284. Plus, they do not jack you on extra charges. The price has always been the same too from week-to-week ... I have a $400 Delta voucher to use up.
  11. I forgot to mention that they close the front desk at 11:00PM and they have a system of safes set up outside where you can still get your key afterhours by simply using your last name .... doesn't seem that safe actually!!! They do have a 'night audit' person working there to deal with emergencies ... really, they should just stay open and considering someone is always there ... closing is highly illogical.
  12. This hotel is rated 2* by PL and is definitely better than most other 2*'s like Comfort Inn's, Fairfield Inn's etc. The hotel is relatively new and purpose built meaning it was not converted from another property. Throughout the hotel, they have little signs saying "anther Candlewood value" referring to all the freebies they offer. This includes free laundry, movies (VHS), CD's, free wired highspeed internet, parking, free local calls and cheap long distance etc... They offer three room types .... the best being a one-bedroom suite. I was only offered a choice of one or two beds in a 'studio' type suite. The rooms are not too large but very well designed and include a full-size fridge, dishwasher, full-size microwave, range, dishes, utensils, salt, pepper, etc. This is also the first hotel room where they have a proper lazy-boy style recliner. The desk faces the TV (25 inch), lots of lighting, laundry basket, and a pack of microwave popcorn. The lobby is small, they have a small exercise room, and their most unique feature is "the cupboard" which is a room full of frozen, cold and dry products like TV dinners, soup, snacks, etc where customers using the 'honor system' pay for items or fill out a room slip. I have been here for a few nights and really enjoy the hotel ... the guests are not what you would find at the Hyatt but the 'values' are indeed better than any other hotel chain. Some of the negatives are... no newspaper, they charge you for additional packs of coffee, there is no daily room cleaning and it is offered once a week .... towels can be exchanged at the front desk where you can also get extra soap, shampoo etc. Oh yeah, the movie selection is excellent ... over 200 fairly new titles and they also have over 60 tv stations!!!
  13. It was amazing while it lasted. I just checked on cleverbidding and the most recent posts confirm that the links are finito. That was without a doubt, the best deal ever and I will have to get used to 'normal' PL prices which are still pretty amazing!!!
  14. Nothing doing today!!! I read that the bonus was working as of this morning on cleverbidding BUT now, it rejects low bids within 6 seconds which is their signal of a useless bid.
  15. Free high speed internet .... presently just set up in a select few rooms What a nice hotel .... first time I have ever received a nicely gift wrapped welcome ammenity of 2 water bottles and a granola bar with my HH-Gold ... and they also give you a coupon for a full breakfast buffet in the ammenity package. From reading the reviews on Flyertalk, I expected a suite ... which I got!!! The room is just like an Amerisuites in size but with nicer furnishings, two 27" TV's but no fridge or microwave. The bathroom is old looking and there is an incriminating hair on the seat, the airconditioning system is also old but at least quiet and the lobby is smallish for a Hilton. Aside from those complaints, I really do like this 'suite' and wish I had booked more days here. I also read that the hotel charges you $1 for the safe ... tomorrow, I will keep an eye on the bill at check-out. This hotel has been bought out and will soon become a Doubletree so that they can lower the prices and better compete with the other airport hotels. They are planning a $2.2 million upgrade!!!
  16. I meant to say ... I had little success bidding for more than three nights. Also, it has been impossible to get lets say 2 rooms for 2 nights ... the bonus has only worked for up to 3 rooms for one night, or 3 nights one room!!!
  17. I had little success with bidding for three nights and when I did, I had bid on average 2-4 pounds higher per night. In fact, I made five 5-night bookings before figuring it out. On 3 night bookings, the price converted perfectly to the US amounts and everything I bid went through.
  18. I saw a 3* on Hotwire by the airport for $33. I have a date up there on Sunday so I figured I might as well spend the night and check out the city!!! *9+10*
  19. Yeah Baby .... it works, it works still!!! Got something that no doubt used the full bonus!!!
  20. I am curious about "The Keg" which is a famous Steak restaurant chain in Canada ... it has opened up locations in Washington State in its expansion abroad ... I am curious how they priced their menu and what premium they are charging the higher cost of living Americans....???
  21. I have been in the US since Sept and still think of the Can. cost everytime I buy/see something ... even my coffee and bagel in the morning. Dunkin Donuts in NY is $3.00 or $5.12 Can .... In Canada at our beloved Tim Horton's (Timmy Ho's), that would only cost $2.30 Can. Many restaurants with locations in Canada and the US use the same menu with the exact same prices such as Red Lobster .... a complete value rip-off for us Canadians. Subway, $4.99 for a cold cut footlong sub here and only $4.99 in Can. Starbucks is another ... $3.20 here and $3.20 in Can. McDonald's is even more outrageous. Applebees on the otherhand, clearly reflects the rate differences in its prices .... $8.95 here $13.95 in Canada. I am loving the new rates .... I even went to Longhornes in Ohio and enjoyed a 20oz porterhouse for $19.95 which I would have never done with the US dollar costing us 1.60+++. Where I did get hit though was paying for grad school ... I paid all the fees when the CAD was at its worst last September!!! I saw a TV show about the increase in Americans buying cars in Canada ... the number had gone up about 500%. There are even some cars with clear price discrepenices ... the Lexus IS 300 had a base price in CAD of about $30,000 and was even more in US$ .... about $33,000 if I remember correctly.
  22. Hotwire now lists a 4* for your date for $85. I have recently bid Montreal twice for a 3* up to $50 and both times rejected ... Hotwire had a 3* listed for $55. There seems to be no-winning in Montreal now.... I had gotten the $25 Holiday Inn Select deal back in May or June for a friend. I also always use 2.5* downtown as a free rebid.
  23. I had done some fiddling with Hotwire's vacation package when they started it and what amazed me is ... Lets say you put in 7 days the price would come up $1019 with a Whistler resort. When you changed it to 10 days, the price increased slightly to $1100 and than for like 19 days, the price was only $1200. This was months ago and I have not checked iagain since. I can't believe the $60 for the Empress ... I bid Victoria left and right for a 4* when I went there recently in March .... and nothing up to $70. I read one of the posts that mentioned they were given the smallest room in the house but I imagne, even if you paid $150 on Priceline ... you would still get that room. Thanks for all the info Scorp .... I am about to look up their "curry buffet" right now.
  24. Bid this for a friend... after getting rejected on a 3* bid. I have stayed at this hotel once and loved it .... the snug lobby resembles a NYC style hotel with a small bar/restaurant except the rooms are much larger. The location is excellent too. I am positive that I could have gotten the hotel cheaper ... I remember in the good old cheap Montreal days ... last year, it would come up for $21. I couldn't take a chance though as my friend wanted it now and there is no rebid opportunities!!!
