  1. Same here... I do arrangements for my brother in law who is an actor and is sometimes embarrased to let his friends know he got the Waldorf or Westin on Priceline!!! My wife and I are trying to travel more as our careers have "settled" somewhat. I also am booking rooms for week after next in Philadelphia as we are boxing vacation time around a seminar I am attending.
  2. Patience is the key and you still have plenty of time to score on your room. I would not panic and I would try to get a cancellable backup just in case. I am referred to as "the family travel agent" in our clan and I make reservations for more than myself. I enjoy the Priceline "challenge" and I must admit the whole game is somewhat addicting... and FUN!!!
  3. I read your other post in a new topic but I will respond here to keep it "on topic". My advice is to be patient and keep trying every 3-4 days with your strategy and maybe include MTE as its not really that far from the area you seek and I think it would increase your odds of winning tremendously. The "W" New York on Lexington has rooms for those dates at buy 3 get one free promo making the total stay $1077 plus tax which is above your limit but may be an option if other availibility does not appear. I recently spent over a week looking nearly every day and finally got the Hilton Times Square for $116 for the dates of Apr 27-30. I had been rejected less than 48 hrs before at $175 so patience is the key and bidding too often will just get you frustrated....
  4. If you split the stay I would try the "add a nite" feature that is frequently in your confirmation e-mail. That way if you get a deal on part of the stay you may have to only pay full price or close for 1-2 nights and not have to move to another hotel. Try looking at the rates for the popular hotels based on individual nights to try to isolate the problem (higher rate) nights. My 2 cents....
  5. Amenities are: Complimentary Breakfast <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Pool(s) High-speed Internet Access I am thinking its the Country Inn and Suites but I'm not sure, thoughts??
  6. I just checked and the $26.00 rooms are gone!! The only thing showing is the 24.90 rate so you better hurry folks!!
  7. Yea, I read that about the whole Hotel being non-smoking GREAT!! I have nothing against smokers, heck I used to smoke myself but now I can't stand to be anywhere near it!! Found this deal on another board and wanted to "share the wealth" so to speak.... thesqueegeekid, I wonder what would happen if we just booked the whole month!! Thats cheaper than rent!!!And I read you get daily breakfast!!It will be VERY interesting to see what happens when thay find their mistake but I think they will honor the reservations. See ya in NYC!!!
  8. I also booked the week of the 24th-31st in case we decide to go late in the month. What a deal!!! I opted for the larger room with the corner view for $26.00 p/n. I figured why not go for it and spend the extra dollar!!!
  9. Ok, you won't beleive this!!, I just booked a cancellable reservation for 2 weeks in August (split into two stays) for the sum of $26.00 per night with the total stay costing $230.84 per week!!! The rate ends on 09/01/06 and appears to be only good for stays of 7 days or more during August only. Don't delete this post calling me nuts until you confirm this folks!! I don't know how long this will stay up and it must be a typo someone loaded into the system but I went ahead and booked our August trip anyway hoping they will honor it. At first I thought that the person that posted this on another board was nuts until I tried it myself!! I have a seperate confirmation number for both weeks in case we change our plans we can cancel one or the other!!! This is unreal if they honor it!! Note: It stated that "non-smoking rooms" were unavailable on both stays but for this rate I'll grin and bear it!!! From my payment page below... Regular Rate,King Studio Corner Room w/3 windows, sofa bed, deluxe Kitchenette, Flat Screen TV, No Rollaway Beds Available,Max 3ppl * Estimated government taxes and fees * 6.98 * Total for stay (per room) * 230.84 http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/...T_Ref=eResConfo
  10. Strategy is based on a lot of factors and cannot be generalized that easy. Beginning bids are based on previous bid history, seasonal variations, occupancy, location, day of the week etc... Study the FAQ's carefully before bidding and look at other posts to learn more. Priceline is a great tool for getting rooms in great locations for really great prices but some areas are much tougher than others (ex. New York)
  11. Well, you won't believe this....I've been bidding for the last week up to $175 in all three zones starting with MTE and was rejected. Decided to start with the MTW zone tonight and bid $116 on my first bid and was accepted at the Hilton Times Square, go figure!! Great deal!! I'm not complaining! Hey, I may have even overpaid!!! Your Price Has Been Accepted Congratulations, you got your price of $116 for a 4-star hotel room. Hilton Times Square 4-star Check-In Date: Thursday, April 27, 2006 Check-Out Date: Sunday, April 30, 2006 Midtown West 234 West 42nd Street New York, New York 10036 212-840-8222
  12. No, I can't, thats the reason for that statement. Is this just going to be a very difficult weekend for some reason?? I will post for my NY trip as soon as my plans are firm.but it looks like I will be staying Midtown on the dates 04/27-04/30 so I've been watching these posts carefully. I may also choose the Beekman as a backup if my Priceline plans don't work out... As always, I enjoy the discussion!!
  13. Why is the weekend on 04/28-04/30 so filled up?? Isn't the Beekman a little far out in the eastern area?? I realize beggars cannot be choosers....
  14. Wanted Oxmoor or Inverness area but Downtown would be ok. for this same day bid. Bid 2.5* Inverness zone $35, rejected added Downtown zone bid $37 rejected but received counteroffer to add $10 (since I had rebid areas available I tried the "chip away" approach!) closed browser added Airport zone bid $39 accepted at the Amerisuites for the 5 day stay!! Not bad considering the best std rate we could find was $99.00 for this unit. This is in a nice area with lots of shopping and great restaurants. As always used the "links" Congratulations, you got your price of $39 for a 2 1/2-star hotel room. Amerisuites Birmingham Inverness 2 1/2-star Check-In Date: Saturday, March 18, 2006 Check-Out Date: Thursday, March 23, 2006 Room total $195.00 Taxes and fees $36.45 Total Charges: $231.45

  16. Wanted 5 nights from 2/27 thru 3/4 but was rejected up to $65, split the bid and was accepted the first two nights at the Tutwiler. The Sheraton is showing sold out thru the weekend. Still looking for the last 3 nights, I'm trying to help my bro in law out who is coming into town from San Fransisco.... I live in B'ham and if anyone needs info on the area just shoot me a email and I will try to help... Note: Every time i have received the counter offer (3 times) in the B'ham area (downtown zone) I have always got the Tutwiler... Bid $44 3* Downtown rejected, was counter offered $12 ignored and added Hoover zone Bid $48 accepted. Price $48.00 Taxes & service fees 21.34 Total 117.34 (2 nights) Note: There are numerious Basketball tournaments going on in B'ham in March. Check the following link for dates. 17. bid $45 rejected added Ft Walton zone bid $55 rejected Strategy now?? Thanks!!
  18. I have a backup reservation that I can cancel if I get a priceline room. I will try the 3 star tomorrow after I get a firm commitment as to if I need 1 or 2 rooms. Other priceline reporting sites are indicating the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort is also showing up (Bayside). It does not have nearly as nice reviews as the Hilton.
  19. I may give it a try... but I will wait until a little closer....
  20. So...you think (i know nothing is a sure thing) that the 3 star in this area is probably the Hilton???
  21. I would like to try 4 the Hilton, are there other 3 star hotels in the area I might get?? I can direct book the Hilton for $89 Hotwire lists the following amenities for $82: Resort Suite Near Beach Property is located within easy walking distance of a beach. Restaurant(s) Pool(s) Fitness Center Spa Services Kitchenette Golf Nearby Tennis Nearby Business Center Laundry Facilities
  22. Need 2 rooms in the Destin/Ft Walton area 2/3/06-2/5/06. Wanted the Hilton Sandestin Resort but when I bring up Priceline for Destin 3 star is the highest rating an no resorts listed?? Has the Hilton stopped participating in Priceline or has the star rating been lowered?? Hotwire lists a 3.5 star resort in Destin but the amenities list it as being "near beach" I thought the Hilton Sandestin was on the beach? Could the Hotwire hotel be the Ramada?? Wanted to spend no more than $60.00 p/nite per room. Could stay in Gulf Shores but I hear the area is still pretty hammered from the hurricanes.....
  23. Fairly nice hotel and it's right next to the Space and Rocket center. Don't forget to visit Pauli's Chop House in D/town Huntsville for superior food!!
