  1. We'll be in town for 1 night. We were both there 20+ years ago. Plan is to fly in, arrive in the morning then go to the zoo or sea world. I'd like to grab a drink at the Hotel Del Coronado. We'll take the Coaster train to Oceanside the next day. What areas work for that. Not super picky about hotel -- 3 stars or better & clean is all we need. I think I'd like the gas lamp district but can be flexible.
  2. I don't remember my Philly stay so I can't update that thread from years ago.. Sorry. My post here contained the date. The Thursday before Labor Day: 8/28/14 but it's not relevant to my Q. My thread & Q are not date / location specific. I want to know if the addition of Express Deals on Priceline has changed how the retailers use / allow bids. If they are setting a floor via express deals & hotwire, does that mean they won't consider a lower bid on the name your own price side of the equation?
  3. I've been bidding on a hotel at LAX for a while now with no success. I want 3 stars or up for less then $100 on the Thursday before Labor Day. My last bid was $80 Do the prices set on PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal (priceline) or Hot.Wire now serve as the minimum, below which the hotel would rather leave the room empty?
  4. Just booked the Westin at LAX (4 stars) for $89 for a Thursday night stay. I strted really cheap $59 . . . Went down to 3.5 stars each time & up by a few dollars each time. It took about 10 days but I'd forget to bid some days. Hope this info helps somebody & that I finally "did it right" by bidding through this PRICELINE link on this site. I tried.
  5. I just booked this 3.5 star property for $59 on Priceline for a Thursday night. As I type this I realized I forgot to go through the PRICELINE link on this site. Sorry. :) We have an obscenly early flight out the next morning so we thought we'd go the night before, have a lovely dinner & then shoot over to the AP rather than leaving our house at 3 am & being exhusted when we arrive at our final desitination.
  6. We're probably going to skip San Diego or at least stay elsewhere, drive to Sea World & then go back to our hotel in Orange County for dinner. After you told me about Comic Con I looked it up b/c it's something DH would have enjoy but it's sold out. Oh well. At this point we're trying to decide if we want to go to Disney vs. the beach. (DH is not really a beach guy)
  7. Just my luck. Of course that's the Friday I'm talking about. Where's the convention & how do we avoid it? We're not totally committed to San Diego. We're flying into Ontario CA very late Thursday & have to be in Oceanside on Saturday & Sunday. The foray to San Diego was supposed to be my treat.
  8. DH & I hope to stay in San Diego 1 Friday night later this month. We'd like to go to Sea World b/c we can get passes on credit card rewards points. I think San Diego Costal, Cornonado, Downtown & Point Loma/ Old Town are the most convenient zones. Are there others? We'd like to be near the beach & no more than 1/2 hour from the park w/o traffic -- yeah yeah, I know So Cal in the summer, no traffic is a joke. What are the 4 & 3.5 stars going for? I read someone won a bid for about $110 but the system is trying to tell me that the ADR is $877. What? :) TIA
  9. We were never able to win anything on PRICELINE this time. We paid rack rate ($135) for a Quality Inn in Condado, El Porto. It turned out to be fine.
  10. What star levels have resort fees in Puerto Rico & how much are they? I thought I read something about 11% but 11% of what, the price you paid on priceline, the rack rate or something else? Is it 11% of the room or per person? We need a room for 1 night pre-cruise on a Saturday in mid-March. TIA
  11. We are sailing from the Pan American pier but I would prefer to stay in Old San Juan.
  12. We fly in late & need to grab a bite, sleep, shower & head to the ship the next morning. Proximity to a Catholic Church in the morning for Mass & a trolley ride through Old San Juan would be ideal but are not required. Can I pick any areas other than San Juan proper to bid w/o drastically increasing our travel time & costs to the port? Also if I bid on a resort, are the resort fees per person? It seems dumb to me to pay $20 pp if we won't have time to use the amenities. Should I just stick with plain hotels?
  13. The price differential between Saturday & Sunday is enormous -- $200 v. $50. If we bid for Saturday night & win can I call the hotel directly & book Sunday in the same room at the regular list price?
  14. DH & I want to go to AC for Superbowl weekend. The rates for Saturday night are about $200, but drop to $50 for Sunday. I don't want to bid for both nights b/c the price I'll have to pay for Saturday means we'll vastly overpay for Sunday. If we bid seperately, we might get 2 different hotels. If I bid for Saturday only after I win, can I call the hotel & just book at the regular price for Sunday without having to change rooms?
  15. DH & I want to go to AC for SuperBowl weekend. The rate for hotels is about $200+ for Saturday night but drops to around $50 for Sunday. I can't see bidding for 2 nights b/c to "win" the bid for Saturday, we're going to have to vastly overpay for Sunday. If I bid for Saturday only, can I call the hotel directly & pay regular price for Sunday without having to change rooms? :)
  16. I won the Downtown Hilton today for $59.00. Other websites have the room as being $209 per night or $249 for the snooze & cruise which includes breakfast & transportation to the pier. For $40 we'll walk a few blocks to get bagels & take a cab. If the Key Biscayne Bridge had reasl sidewalks with rails like the GWB in NYC, we'd walk; it's less than a mile. I was rejected at that Price in Septmeber & October.
  17. I know it's subjective but we're on a budget. We need a hotel for 1 night pre-cruise in early Jan 2010. I've seen full price rooms by the AP for way under $100. Two stars is fine (would prefer 3). We'd like to be able to walk to nightlife & possibly by a beach. I've seen 2 stars for around $100 in Miami beach. I'm off to tripadvisor to learn more about them. What location should I pick for bidding? I've been being silly & bidding $50 for 4 stars ocean front in Miami beach. I don't want to save a lot then blow it on transportation to dinner & the port. What are your recomendations?
  18. You beat us. I must stink at this. We got the same hotel as this Priceline Win for $58 per night for July 10 & 11, 2009. I'm pretty happy about that. The website said the regular rate was $149 per night & even with tax we're paying about $141 total. It's near or on Rittenhouse Sqaure which is a very nice neighborhood. I always feel safe there. If you have never been to Philly a tip I learned a while ago is if you go on the website you can reserve tickets for the Liberty Bell for $1. If you don't do this you have to go stand in a line & they sell out even though they are free. this is totally worth the $1 to me.
  19. I don't remember exactly when I bid; it was late August. We stayed at the hotel from Oct. 22 to Oct. 25.
  20. Has anybody ever used PRICELINE or HOTWIRE for an in season hotel at the shore? Which ones? TIA :)
  21. Your English is fine. That said do you want to be in NYC or look at the Skyline? I actually think that looking at NY is sometimes better than being in NYC. The hotel room itself may also be a bit bigger in NJ & the ambient noise may be less especially on a lower floor. It's a personal preference but there is something to be said for walking out the front door & being in NYC.
  22. Last summer while planning our honeymoon I was getting very discouraged about hotel prices in Paris. I had already booked the tickets & was about to suck it up & pay over $300 per night for a 2 star dump when in desperation I tried Priceline for the 1st time. I was shocked & terrified when I got a notice on the 1st try about 3 months out that my winning bid of $150 per night was accepted. I knew nothing about this board at time or maybe things would have been even cheaper. Even though the hotel is in the 14th district it's on a metro line & was just fine for us. I am a true believer now & am looking forward to saving even more money in the future.
