  1. Prior to bidding, I checked HOTWIRE and rates for full size cars were $61 per day which was less than the mid size rate. I bid $46 using PRICELINE, but was rejected and received a counter offerer of $53. I continued to bid $46 for mid size, standard, premium, luxury, and even minivan but was rejected. I started another bid after 24 hours at $49 with success. I very pleased with the results of the bid, regular rates were sky high during this holiday week. I used the links on the board to make my bids.

    Total Charges: $337.98

  2. hi.. i did not succeed. so i ultimately gave up. Although I do appreciate all the help! Thank you so much!

I have stayed at the 1* Extended Stay America located in the Meadowlands-Rutherford zone. While it's not my favorite hotel chain, I feel It offers good value, I have bid around $50 and won it. Parking is free and wifi is $4.99 for the duration of your stay. You could drive to the NJ Transit Park and Ride and take the 320 bus into the city, a round trip ticket and parking was $9.50 the last time I used it. Don't give up, anything worthwhile takes time and effort.

  3. Thanks for the heads up, this reservation is for my wife who doesn't always share my zeal for a deal. It looks like the new name of the Best Western property is Scranton East Hotel and Convention Center. I have not stayed at Nichols Village in a few years, I think they were in the middle of refurbishing some of the rooms during my previous stay. I just could not pull the trigger on spending $125 + for a room at a mid level chain like HI Express, Hampton or Fairfield. So, what's good for the goose is good for the gander!

  4. My wife and I rented bikes and we cycled through Central Park in July. I would not recommend a single speed bike as there are several spots that will require uphill pedaling. We rented for one hour and did a complete loop of the park and it was barely enough time. You could grab a dirty water hot dog for lunch or pack a picnic if the weather is cooperative. A walk across Brooklyn Bridge is memorable, and having a pie at Grimaldi's under the bridge might be a reward for the effort.

  5. Won on my first bid, used BiddingHelper.com.com to check out HOTWIRE. It appeared that the 2.5* Clarion was available, but the reviews are mixed with a 2.5 out of 5 Tripadvisor rating, so I commenced bidding on PRICELINE.

    Offer Price: $45.00

    Taxes & Fees: $12.29

    Total: $57.29

The rack rate was $99, looks like this property added "Spa" to it's moniker, that should be an interesting development. I was hoping to get the Best Western, but his will do.

  6. how many guests will you be? NOTE that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. This is especially risky in NYC since hotels have a higher percentage of rooms with only one bed, and many hotels consider rooms with 2 beds to be an 'upgrade'. Is this a risk you're willing to accept?

  7. Made several bids in the Riverhead zone up to $47 without success. I had looked at the previous wins in the Hauppauge zone and submitted a bid for $43, success!

    Offer Price: $43.00

    Taxes & Fees: $13.66

    Total: $56.66

Thursday nights typically have lower occupancy, so I took a chance that a lowball bid would be accepted. Used BiddingHelper.com.com to make my bids so I could simultaneously check HOTWIRE rates. I have stayed here at least 10 times in the past and this remains one of the best bargains in the area, the rack rate was $148.

  8. Made a few bids in the convention center zone, but was rejected. I was using bidding helper to see what was being offered on HOTWIRE and saw a 3* for $67 in the Brookline-Newton-Harvard zone. Some of the reviews mentioned there was a charge for parking and that the hotel was built over a highway, thought it might be the Crowne Plaza. I changed zones to Revere Logan and bid $75 for a 2.5 * and was rejected. Dropped to a 2* and bid $72, success!

    Offer Price: $72.00

    Taxes & Fees: $18.16

    Total: $90.16

The rack rate is $119, so this is a decent discount and gives me some ammo when arguing with a friend about booking Marriott hotels directly and getting points vs. using PRICELINE and bidding. This hotel offers free parking and de rigueur free wifi and breakfast.

This appears to be a new(er) property and for me, the refurbIshed Fairfield Inns are about as good as it gets. Great work area in the room, flat panel TV, comfy bed and a modern lobby.

  9. I am not aware of PRICELINE's 100% "after the stay" refund.

Downgrades happen all the time, but the only way to get an adjustment would be to catch this prior to your stay, HOTWIRE would typically have offered to cancel your reservation without penalty You would need to go to your account and look at the star rating of your upcoming stay and see if the rating has changed. I would ask customer service or even the hotel for the date of the hotel downgrade and if it was before your stay, you might be in line for more hot dollars good for a future stay. Asking for a100% refund is a bit unreasonable, kind of like finishing dinner at a restaurant then complaining that the food was lousy and such small portions after cleaning your plate, then asking the waiter to remove it from your bill. Did you have any issues with your hotel stay?

I would ask for more hot dollars, and never threaten to "never use HOTWIRE again for the rest of my life" because there is no incentive to keep you as a customer.

  10. I wish there were a way to guarantee a Residence inn as well, it's one of my favorite chains. You may want to consider the Rye NY zone, I haven't bid here in many years, but the Hilton is a great property as is the Courtyard. Finally, if you can drive a bit north, the Stamford zone seems to accept lower bids compared to adjacent zones, but you may have to pay for parking. Even with the parking fee, it is still a good deal. Some of the Stamford hotels are a short distance to the Metro North train station in case your travels take you to NYC. Occasionally the Hyatt in Greenwich has appeared on HOTWIRE as well, this is a nice property too.

  11. Started bidding at the 3* level at $55 in hopes to get the Courtyard, but was rejected. Dropped to the 2.5*, bid $47 and received a counteroffer to increase to $62. I rejected the counteroffer and bid $55, then bid $56, success!

    Offer Price: $56.00

    Taxes & Fees: $20.52

    Total: $76.52

The prepaid rate through Best Western was $90 or $105 with tax, not the best deal, but I'll take it. This hotel features all my favorite freebees: parking, Internet, breakfast. Started the bidding process through BiddingHelper.com.com as it allows me to simultaneously check HOTWIRE and hotels.com.

  12. Got this rental about a week in advance as I was not successful bidding up to $45. Ended up with a Ford Focus, with taxes it was $67.50. I bought the collision damage waiver through PRICELINE for $11.

Got the high pressure "upsell" from the agent to buy Budget's CDW, she stated that the PRICELINE insurance would still make me liable for a total loss in case there was an accident. She also tried hard to upsell on the car class as well. I asked her to call the Ft. Myers rental counter and see if they needed any Lincoln Town Cars as I would be happy to bring one up and I would not charge Budget for driving a less fuel efficient vehicle. She quickly printed out my rental agreement and tossed me the keys to the Focus which got about 35 mpg.

  13. Sorry for the omission, this was a direct purchase through PRICELINE, my bids were rejected up to $49 for a compact. I ended up with Avis. I was pleased with this transaction because the best deal that I was able to get was around $100 with the drop off charge. I was concerned that there might be a drop off charge with Avis, I called them directly and was told I needed to contact PRICELINE. I called PRICELINE and was told I needed to call Avis. In the end, the charges were exactly as expected, despite the attempts of the rental agent to upsell me to a Mustang, or an Altima and sell additional insurance. Through PRICELINE, I paid an additional $11 for collision damage waiver.

  14. Made several unsuccessful bids in the downtown zone, I was hoping to get the Holiday Inn Express. I started a new bid in the Convention Center, Latin Quarter zone and won at $57. Rack rates are $132 CDN, and the Loonie is at parity with the USD today, so I am pleased with the win. The hotel features a salt water pool, according to the website.

Made my bids with the help of Bidding Helper

  15. Made unsuccessful PRICELINE bids up to $54 in the Airport zone and $49 in the Downtown zone at the 2* level. I have been using Bidding Helper to make my bids, so it was simple to check out HOTWIRE. I saw a 2.5* with restaurant, smoke free, business, high speed Internet amenities for $57. It had a 3.5 Tripadvisor rating and a 85% HOTWIRE rating.

    Hotel Rate per night: $57.00

Tax recovery charges & fees: $15.59

    Trip total: $72.59

Downtown Montreal is somewhat unusual in that the surrounding areas seem more expensive, but the downtown hotels typically charge for parking. The Days Inn charges $20, but I was able to find parking on the street despite parking rules in French. Much of the street parking requires residential permits as well.

The standard rate is $85 or $102 with tax, so I am pleased with this win. Overall, this hotel is a little worn and the amenities in the room are dated, it should be a 2*.
