My advice for someone who has never visited Hawaii and only has one week...there is PLENTY to see and do on Oahu for one week. Honolulu and Waikiki Day 1 Arrival, Dinner Relax, Get to know Waikiki, restaurants and shops Day 2 Punchbowl Cemetary (historical and fascinating) Arizona Memorial (very moving) Some pool or beach time at your hotel Dinner Day 3 Waikiki Beaches and Hotels Try wandering through some of the nicer hotels Royal Hawaiian just reopened after being closed for many months for renovation, beautiful hotel Moana Surfrider, has a historical section on the 2nd floor above the lobby Hilton Hawaiian Village, nice shops, pool, restaurants, great to stroll from Royal Hawaiian along the beach to the Hilton Try spend a little time ON the beach and just people watch Dinner Day 4 Take the bus or rent a car and go to Haunama Bay Incredible Snorkeling, beautiful beach, great drive along the way Good 1/2 day or 3/4 day adventure, stop at some towns along the way just a bit further north Day 5 Spend the day on the north shore, Haleiwa Town, Polynesian Cultural Center, Lanikai (consistently voted one of the top beaches in the world, powder white sand, gorgeous blue waters) Day 6 Take some time and relax at your hotel pool or at the beach, bring a book, write those postcards, have a famous Blue Hawaiian or Mai Tai you will find that after day 2, you'll start to get on "Hawaiian Time" and things will slow down dramatically for you Prepare for your flight home next day Nice final dinner night, go somewhere upscale, plenty of choices, I recommend Hoku's at the Kahala (if you feel you can splurge just this once...fantastic views, incredible food) Day 7 Souvenir shop for those friends and family members back home Check out those other Waikiki places you found along the way and want to go back to. RELAX, it's your last day in Paradise You will find that you'll want to come back...and next time...try another island Kauai - Nature Island, much more laid back, everything closes up at 9pm, more waterfalls, green nature, hiking trails, rustic beaches Maui - Nightlife and Quiet, best of both worlds, Resorts, great beaches, shops, restaurants, nightlife if you want that Big Island - Volcano, solitary beaches, no one else around, huge mega resorts, massive island, many hours to drive the perimeter, some amazing beaches, but slow slow slow paced. Other islands are VERY slow paced and very secluded....if you want lots of things to do, I'd stick with Oahu, and Kauai, Maui and Big Island Enjoy, and try to relax a bit in there. =)
