  1. Through the Betterbidding PRICELINE link I first bid $42 for downtown. Rejected, so upped bid to $45 and added midtown. Rejected again, so upped by $1 to $46 and added airport. Won Hyatt Place, a new, suite-like hotel that is new and clean. Added bonus-- free breakfast for the four of us. Great deal; almost makes me feel guilty (not).
  2. Through the Betterbidding PRICELINE link I bid $62 for a 3* in Plaza area. Rejected but given option to up my bid by $15. Did this and got the Hilton (3.5*) for $77. Very pleased with the property. Treated like any other customer, and Hilton Honors got me reduced parking (which they never put on my bill) and free internet. Nice hotel with great pool and great location.
  3. Was hoping for Crowne Plaza, but got snared by the new PL 3.5* rating (Marriott was a 3* prior to this). Still, this is a great deal for $45-- I have stayed here before and was very happy with the facility.
  4. Have sucessfully won this hotel numerous times, recently in the $50-52 range. Was surprised to hit a winner on my first bid of $45. Despite some negative reviews, I have found this to be a very adequate hotel for the money. Parts of the hotel could use some updating, but overall it is a deal at this price. This time of year the indoor/outdoor pool is great.
  5. You might consider Jersey City. I just stayed for three nights at the Candlewood Suites there because nothing worked on PL despite 20+ separate attempts. We had a very nice room about 5 minutes from the PATH station that is 4 minutes from the World Trade Center (or, in the other direction, ~20 minutes from 34th Street and 6th Ave). They are $220/night during the time you are travelling (I paid $180). Would I have preferred to be in Manhattan? Yes, but with the $150+/night we saved (compared to comparable Manhattan hotels), we were able to have a lot of fun. And the views are incredible.
  6. Overall a positive experience for the $84 PL bid, but I concur with the others that the rooms themselves are a bit disappointing for a 4* hotel: smallish, a bit worn, and overall more like what I would expect at a 3* or 3.5* place. Still, the location is great and the price was right. A couple of comments on the 'extras' as the Hyatt: 1) Parking is an absolute ripoff at $30 self park and $51.25/night, plus tax (that's not a typo folks) for valet with in and out priveleges. As I was there on a Saturday night, I parked on the street right outside the front door for $51.25 less than the going rate in the garage. And, as I watched a line of restless valet victims grumbling about how slow their cars were being retrieved on Sunday at noon time, I hopped in my car and zoomed away. 2) The bottle of water provided for the guests at $6.50 seemed a bit overpriced when I bought exactly the same bottle across the street at Walgreens for $1.09. I know that hotels make profits on these things, but 6 times the going rate is a tad excessive. And, relatedly, is the warning note above the fridge that a $30 'restocking fee' will be added to the bill is anything is removed from the fridge without being purchased strikes me as a little on the tacky side. 3) This is not a Hyatt-specific complaint, since it remains all too common, but why do high-end hotels persist in charging high fees for an internet connection that most every hotel/coffee shop/diner offers for no charge?
  7. After going through the PRICELINE link, I started out optimistically with a $65 bid. Re-bid four times (S. SanFran, Lombard, Cathedral and Civ Ctr), finally hitting a winner at $84. With taxes $103.75, a nice savings over the $181 rate on the Hyatt web site.
  8. I bid $47 and was rejected (I have stayed at this property numerous times and have almost always paid $44-48). Added Southgate/Taylor and rebid $50. Won. A nice deal compared to the $109 web price (and the $69 HOTWIRE price).
  9. Going thru savingsbarn.com I bid $41on a 3* DTW airport hotel. Rejected. I rejected offer to bid $12 more and instead bid $44 and added Taylor/Southgate. Accepted. I have used this particular strategy successfully numerous times; it is a great rate for a pleasant hotel (formerly Doubletree) that is less than 20 minutes from most everything in the Detroit area.
  10. Based on info from other posters, tried $53 for 3* in Downtown Philly area (1100 Arch Street) for 12/7-12/9. Accepted. Pleased with this, given 'special internet rate' for this hotel as listed on hilton.com as $134.95/night for these dates. Never hurts to save 60+% off 'best' deals... As I always, I went through savingsbarn.com for my bidding.
  11. Went through Savings Barn (what else?!?) and bid $39 3* just the DTW area. Rejected. Added Taylor/Southgate and bid $42. Rejected. Added Dearborn and bid $45. We have a winner! Three nights total (with fees): $163.94. Found a rate for the Metropolitan on Orbitz for $59/night, so not a huge savings once you figure in Priceline fees. Still, the Metropolitan is a decent place to stay, with a nice pool for the kids, so I am very pleased to get it for this price.
  12. Hi, I'm trying to figure out what this DTW airport vicinity property might be for 11/21- 11/24. Hotwire price = $63: Suite Airport Shuttle Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center Laundry Facilities High-speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Kitchenette I'm thinking Crowne Plaza, but don't know what other possibilities there would be in DTW area. Iedeas? Thanks!
  13. Sheesh! I have stayed at the Metropolitan numerous times and have consistently found it to be superior to any Motel 6 used here for comparison. It's not the Ritz, but for $45 (what I typically pay on PL) it is completely adequate in all respects. Seems to me that you were looking to quibble, and you found some things to complain about (single pane glass?!? I have always found the place to be well soundproofed, considering that it sits a couple of hundred yards from a DTW runway). You've never seen expensive vending machines in a hotel before? You expect the hotel shuttle come right to your rental car office to pick you up? Travel much?
  14. Started at $42 FOR 3* @ DTW 12/26-12/27/06. Rejected, added Downtown at $45. Rejected again, added Dearborn @ $48. Rejected yet again-- I was very surprised at this, because I have never paid more than $45 for 3* at DTW (either Marriott or Doubletree (now Metropolitan)). Hotel space must've been tight with the Motor City Bowl going on... :) Finally added Taylor and bid $50 and got accepted at Metropolitan. My first stay at Metropolitan since Doubletree sold it; no significant changes that I could see, other than the nice complimementary breakfast they now include.
  15. The Metropolitan was until a few months ago a Doubletree property. I often stay at DTW area and always preferred it over the Marriott when I would win it on Priceline. So fear not, it is a nice property. It is the closest hotel to the airport, literally overlooking the runways. Also, there is a remote parking area directly across the street that I believe is in the $8/day range, so that would be a good option for you.
  16. My bad--it was indeed Priceline. Great site!
  17. Have successfully bid on this at least two dozen times in the past 4 years, always in the $38-$42/nite range. Very nice property for this price. Occasionally I will win the nearby Doubletree (equally nice, but with a bigger (indoor/outdoor) pool) for the same price, although recently it has been all Marriott.
