I have not had luck recently bidding on this place at $32 for weekdays. My niece and her friends are coming to town. The vacancies are not very high in San Jose these days. So I am happy to be able to buy my niece this place for 2 days. This is the best kept ESA in the Silicon Valley based on my experience.

It is interesting that Priceline rates this Extended StayDeluxe 1* while gives 2* to the ESA next door (6199 San Ignacio). I'd expect Deluxe would earn as least the same rating as the regular variety. I have been paying the same $32 for ESA thru Priceline, I might have shortchanged me for a while by bidding on 2* in South San Jose.

Priceline listed this place as Santa Clara - Sunnyvale, but it is actually in Alviso District of San Jose. I'll be arriving prepared, since there is no stores or restaurants nearby.

This is definitely the lowest bid this place will accept because my first offer of $40 for 2.5* was not accepted. I used to be able to find a 2.5* place (e.g., Hilton Garden) for $35 around San Jose in 2005, but those days are gone. Therefore, this is the best bet around San Jose for me. I prefer this place to the 3* Berverly Heritage in Milpitas (about 6 miles away).

None of my regular spots shoed up when I bidded $33 for 2* in San Jose, Milpitas, Santa Clara and Sunnyvale. The $32 bid was accepted when I expanded to South San Jose. This area is far away from most of fun spots, it is inconveient unless you are working at one of the nearby business. Restaurants selections are limited too.

I have not had much good impression of Red Lion in the recent years, especially at those locations did not qualify to be Double Tree before West Coast took over.
However, this one is an exception. This hotel is at a sub-urban location, with a university and a hospital nearby. My room has two queen beds and still has room for a sofa. The room has a desk, two phones, small micro and fridge. Cable TV has about 60 channels, including NorthWest Cable News. Many 3* places I stayed in Seattle area lacked NWCN which is a pretty informative news channel. Also, kind of unusual for Red Lion, this hotel serves compimentary continental breakfast.
This hotel definitely earns my 2.5* .

$39 for 2.5* failed in several zones in Portland, $39 for 2.5* was accepted when I crossed the Columbia River. This is at the high end of this low baller. But, the lowest rate (We promise rate) from the hotel web site is $89.
I thought that Priceline always had a zone for South San Jose. But PL did eliminate the zone of San Jose Airport and combined it with Downtown San Jose, about 2 months ago.
Anyway, South SJ is the zone between Downtwon SJ and Morgan Hill. IBM used to have a big operation here, but part of the campus has been converted into big box shopping centers.
I have not had luck with this zone, at my price, until this week.

This is close to my ideal 2.5* at right price with complementary full breakfast buffet. Hotel web site quote hot rates $70 for Th, Fr and Sa and $100 for Su.

Priceline sent me here in January at $41/nt. It has nice rooms and buffet breakfast.
This is definitely a better place than the 3* Beverly Heritage (Milpitas) Priceline has sent me to recently.
Their 4th brand of the ESA family is called "Studio Plus" which I have not had a previledge of patronage.
But for this type of extended stay places, "TownePlace by Marriott" is a clear winner, Priceline sent me there 3 weeks ago. Candlewood even offers guests free uses of washers and dryers.

This is the first time I stay at a TownePlace by Marriott. This brand is not as spartan as ESA or Homestead. It has a sofa in my queen room. Wired internet runs at 100MPS. Kitchen has a range with oven. There is a rool of paper towel in the kitchen and there is a bottle of shampoo and hair dryer in the bath room. Oh, it offers simple continental breakfast featuring SaraLee muffins and bottled Tropican juices. Coffee is always on in the lobby.
One of my pet-peeves with most hotels in the Bay Area is lack of local TV channels, some times not even KRON4, the most important news channels here. However, , Cable TV has more than 50 channels, including channels 4, 26, 32, 36 and other local channels.
This poor man's Residence Inn is a winner.

This under $35 bidder stayed 3 nights in ESA/Homestead in 3 different states. With 4 more nights this week, ESA is becoming my home away from home now.
The rent for leasing a furnished apartment here in Silicon Valley is more than $1000/mo plus linen, phone, etc. Therefore, Priceline is a better deal than leasing an apartment.

I submitted the bids in the parking lot of Holiday Inn Express in Carson City, NV. My original bid of $36 for 2.5* in 3 zones failed. Second bid of of $37 for 4 zones also failed. Finally succeeded when I bid $35 for 3 zones.
I used to think that there is 1/3 probability of getting Extended Stay/Homestead family of hotels when bidding 2* on Priceline. However, it has been 3 for 3 this week on my drive from NC to CA. ESA/Homestead predictably all have clean and functional rooms, they are my favorite for more than 2 days of stay when I can get it for $35 from the priceline. However, for one-nighter, I do prefer places that offer breakfast. I miss my Hampton Inn or Fairfield Inn. Picky, Picky.
This Homestead is located in an office complex, there is no shops within one-mile radius. I had to drive about 3 miles to find a grocery store.

HOTWIRE shows Laundromat as the only amenityes,.
Even though the hotel name says Downtown, this one is at stone's throw from the SJC airport. Hotwire lists this one at the Airport Zone. I thought that I was buying a room at Homestead Studio, but what a pleasant surprise, ESD is ingeneral much nicer than ESA or Homestead. This property used to be Sierra Suite until it moved to a new building nearby.
I have checked several departure dates, the price would be $39/nite had I stayed one day longer. That means Holidays are over.
