  1. Bid strategy: Tried $120 for a 4-star in White House area... fail Tried $110 for a 3.5-star in White House or Dupont Cir. - fail Tried $100 for a 3-star in White House, Dupont or Foggy Bottom - win Funny enough an PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal for a 3-star in White House area for $96 showed up JUST after I won this bid... I am sure it's this hotel too but for $4 under my bid...so clearly pays to stay on top of the Express Deals as well as they change literally minute by minute!
  2. bid $80 for 4* downtown, didn't work bid $90 and added Old Town area, didn't work raised to $100 and added Coronado... bingo! Price of room on Omni's website is $249
  3. Tried Hollywood at $85 - message onscreen "latest data shows that such a bid will not be accepted" Tried Hollywood at $88 - the lowest amount that message didn't show up - rejected Added Lawndale (where there are no 4* hotels) at $95 - rejected Added Culver City (where there are no 4* hotels) at $100 - accepted
  4. Accepted on first bid of $49 I don't think I've ever paid this little for a 4* anywhere in the country, but I'll take it!
  5. First bid Downtown zone 4* at $79, bid rejected, but PRICELINE asked if I wanted to rebid the same zone for $22 more. Instead, I opted to add a zone (Harbor Island/Old Town) where I knew there were no 4* hotels at least according to our trusty betterbidding.com hotel list. Bid at $90 and got it.
  6. The Bilderberg Garden is a low-rise hotel built in a "garden district" of Amsterdam right next to the Hilton and ten minutes walk from Amsterdam SOUTH station (very convenient for trains to the airport). However it's a good half hour walk (or quick tram ride) to the city centre (Leidseplein) so if you like being in the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam Centre and like to walk everywhere, this is is NOT the hotel for you, and there is very little in the way of amenties in the district itself. Moreover the layout of the hotel feels more like a motel. Having said that the room is clean, the beds are comfy and it does quality as 4.5 star, just very much on the boring side. Amenities mentioned: 4.5-star hotel in City Centre - Museum Quarter This hotel features the following amenities: Smoke Free Rooms Smoke Free Rooms Guest rooms at this hotel are always smoke-free. Restaurant(s) Restaurant(s) Property offers at least one restaurant on the premises; hours and days of operation may vary. Business Center Business Center Guests have access to business equipment and services; an additional charge may apply. High-speed Internet Access High-speed Internet Access Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply.
  7. Tried $60 for a 4* in Midtown and was rejected, then $70 rejected, $80 rejected, and finally $90 accepted. Each time I added a zone where I knew there was no 4* so I would be sure to get Midtown. The hotel was asking $199 on Expedia although the W was only $143 which made me think occupancy must still be awfully low for this date. I was offered to extend the stay at the same rate.
  8. Amenities listed were: 4-star hotel in Gaslamp Quarter - Convention Center This hotel features the following amenities: Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-speed Internet Access
  9. Started with $100 bid for 4* Times Square area.... rejected added MTW area for same stars and price... rejected then added Chelsea (no 4 stars there) and upped bid to $110... voila, accepted. Royalton's website is showing $309 rate, Expedia is showing $299, I consider this a HUGE score! Viva PRICELINE and viva Betterbidding.com!
  10. This was a tricky one. Started with a bid of $65 (I saw someone got one of my nights for $65 in a 5* at the NH Barbizon), that was rejected but I was immediately allowed to increase my bid to $115. Instead I tried my luck and added a zone (North, since there are no 5* hotels in Amsterdam North), for $80, rejected again. Tried a third time with $100, for some reason it didn't catch the fact that I was rebidding the same stars and zones and it rejected me again but said I could try again if I raised my bid by $22. So I did and finally got the Krasnopolsky. Still very satisfied with the price. NH's own website is quoting 177 (euro!) for the room. so this is 45% less than that!
  11. 4-star hotel in Midtown East This hotel features the following amenities: Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center High-speed Internet Access Tennis Nearby
  12. IMO Intercontinental is better than a 4* so very happy with this price
  13. I bid $180 and Priceline "countered' with an unidentified offer for $266 in same zone and price class.
  14. Tried $85, then my friend tried $115. Even $115 wouldn't do it for a resort in Sedona on that date. I was guessing that it would be the Hilton which retails for $179.
  15. Hi, I am from LA and hope you enjoy it. Universal is good, only problem with Universal is via Priceline you have to choose the general vicinity and you cannot guarantee you will be within walking distance of the metro and you might be very much stuck. Without a car Universal is definitely NOT walkable and worse it's on a mountaintop. Hollywood and Downtown are more walkable, and (where the hotels are) are safe by day, by night not really UNsafe, but quite seedy!!! I think you would get a very bad impression of the city which would be a shame... The metro is clean and safe, but riding the buses is - again - not UNsafe, but can be seedy. There's no nice way to put it but the bus it pretty much for the poor and recent immigrants in LA, everyone else has a car. And the areas you go through on the bus are pretty rough which might give you a scare... So there is a tradeoff... If you can find a good rate at a place that is AT Universal City itself, that would be your best bet.
  16. Saw a post about some amazingly low bids even for weekday stays so tried $60 for a 4*. Rejected but invited to bid again, same stars, same area, if I bid at least $17 more. So I did. Got the Hyatt Regency Penn's Landing. On Hotels.com for $209. Sweet.
  17. Amazing price but the reviews on tripadvisor.com make it look like it might be a bit scary... we'll see!
  18. Fashion week in NYC so very hard to get anything in the normal range. Here were my failed bids $150, 4*, MTS $85, 3*, MTS $100, 3*, MTS/MTW $110, 3*, MTS/MTW/CPS (That one kinda floored me) Booked the Hampton Inn Chelsea for $207 instead. Didn't seem to be a choice!
