  1. Amenities: Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-speed Internet Access, Kitchenette $139 per night - the price was supposed to be $299 a night as listed on Priceline - however I should have called the hotel directly once I suspected it was Windsor (from this site!) because they were offering a $129 a night special that they advertised on a placard outside the hotel! It was peace of mind to book ahead of the trip though. :) HOTWIRE was not really a bargain at all, imho! The price wound up being $40 more a night for a bigger room. The hotel also tried to automatically add $34 per night for parking, which luckily we caught! I don't think this was a bargain at all really - I wrote a Hotel Review. This was my first experience with HOTWIRE.
  2. We booked this room for 3 nights using Hotwire. $139 per night. Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool Restaurant Business Center High-speed Internet Access Kitchenette Upon check in we were told there would be a $34 a night charge for parking - we were able to park on the street, just across the street for FREE. There is much parking available and it is much cheaper. Before staying here we read many mixed reviews. This lead us to believe that there was possibly a recent renovation. We called ahead, gave the details of our reservation and were correct and were told that we would be given a "new" room for an additional $40 a night - we agreed. The people at the front desk are very helpful and friendly. Our room was actually a 1 bedroom apartment. There are 3 ENORMOUS closets, a newly remodeled bathroom a living room and kitchen. The space can't be beat! The room is listed as a 3* however I would probably rate it as a 2*. The furniture in our room is very old, and has its fair share of dust on it. The sofa is so worn it actually bows down and touches the floor in the middle! I am appreciative of personality, but I think this is a little more "neglect". The carpet is filthy. While I understand that one more than likely shouldn't expect to eat off a hotel room floor - my children's feet are black. They are literally black. There are 2 double beds in the bedroom. The comforters are old worn and have obviously not been cleaned, but the linens are very clean and sparkling white. The pillows are an odd mix. There are 4 pillows to a bed and 3 of the 4 are very nice, plump and firm, the 4th seems to be a very old feather pillow. There is a flat screen television in both the bedroom and the living room and there are 4 telephones in the space. The kitchen is older, but it is very clean. There is a stove, a sink, garbage disposal, mini-dishwasher and refrigerator. The fridge is brand new. The stove is a gas stove, however there is no gas hookup, which renders the unit unusable. The bathroom was recently remodeled, so the fixtures are new and the tub is maintained, recently caulked, no cracks, mold, etc. The fixtures are really a really unique ceramic design - very nice - probably the nicest thing in the hotel room! The towels are fresh and new - stiff - but still new. There is a musty, wet, particle board smell to the room. Does that description make sense? The pool. Its so cool because the pool is on the 23rd floor of this building - outside, on the roof! - and it is surrounded by buildings that are 50-60 stories high. The view "up" is BREATHTAKING! That being said, the pool hours, 10am - 7:30pm don't give a typical visitor much time to use it and certainly not a business visitor. You have to call the front desk and request "pool towels" to be sent to your room before going up as they do not keep them poolside. There is a small walk out balcony and the view of the art museum/ city hall / Ben Franklin Parkway IS GORGEOUS! Very pretty! I am not a hyper-critical person. While I appreciate high end comforts, I am willing to accept a lower class of hotel when it meets basic requirements for cleanliness and maintenance. This hotel was nice in that it was an affordable way for a family of 5 to stay in Center City Philadelphia and be within walking distance of the Art Museum, Logan's Square, The Museum of Natural History, City Hall, Rittenhouse Square and the Franklin Science Center, however there is an Embassy Suites just next door to this hotel that I have stayed in that is much cleaner. I would probably trade the space for something smaller and cleaner.
  3. I have not stayed here personally but live in Akron, and have had friends that stay there. I think for the area its pretty good $$ wise. It is right off I-77 a little west of Fairlawn. You will be about 1/4 of a mile from where LeBron James is building his new house :) LOL. (seriously! you can look for the Akron General Medical Center Wellness Center and there is a neighborhood just north of its parking lot and the HUGE house under construction is his!) Its an okay hotel - I am a little surprised that it is 3* though. I would put it at 2 1/2 only because its not really a full service hotel. It is new though, You are close to EVERYTHING in this area... food (of all kinds) a mall, gas, and shopping, shopping, shopping. Hyde Park Grill is a really well known steakhouse here - although I am really no help there because I am a vegetarian :) Have a great visit to Akron - there really is a lot to do and see here - you just have to look a litle harder :o Oh, and if you are not from the area, you have to try Strickland's Frozen Custard - there is one right down the street (on the other side of Barnes and Noble, in the same plaza as Brubaker's) it is very good, locally owned soft frozen custard Mmmm!
  4. Many times, in various cities, at vaious hotels I have called ahead and asked to be placed in a larger room, a few times I have been turned down, but always offered an "upgrade" for a price, usually $10. I don't recommend lying, but one time my husband told the clerk at the Columbus Westin that it was my birthday and she upgraded us to a suite - free of charge!
  5. As silly as this seems, I bet its because of the State Fair this week!
  6. As an additional note, they upgraded the room to a "king" for no charge and also added a "Heavenly Crib" for no charge via telephone last night!
  7. I placed this bid through savingsbarn.com AND I donated a small amount to BB through your paypal link. I haven't used this site often, but in just the few times I have it has saved me well over $100... and we are a family of 4 (soon to be 5!) on a teacher's salary... had we not found you we wouldn't be able to travel 1/2 as much as we do!! THANKS!! I started at $50 a night for a 4* in Downtown. Since I know there are no other zones in the Pittsburgh area that carry a 4* I kept adding a new zone and $2 to get a "free" rebid. FINALLY got the Westin Convention Center at $64 a night! Your Offer Price: $64.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $128.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $26.59 Total Charges: $154.59 "Guest rooms feature Westin's signature Heavenly Bed and Heavenly Bath, and are among the largest in the city with each displaying a view of the downtown business district. Amenities include coffee maker complete with Starbucks coffee, iron and ironing board, in-room safes, and plush bathrobes." Sounds Great!!
  8. I will do a more formal review of this property a little later, but I have to say it is the most amazing place I have ever stayed. The rooms are a little old, but the people couldn't have been friendlier. We were upgraded for free and TONS of activities are included with the stay. trappfamily.com Seriously, its where the real von Trapps lived!! One thing -- in VT there is a $12 a day fee IN ADDITION to what you pay through priceline. It's totally legit, and has to do with ensuring that the hotel staff is tipped accordingly. But for that $12 we were pretty much unpacked by hotel staff, had nightly turndown and didn't have to leave any cash for the housekeeper. Vermont is a people first state and anyone traveling there will soon leanr that -- the $12 a night seemed fair - but it was a surprise.
  9. I started bidding for this trip 6 days ago. Initially I wanted to be in Burlington, but after a few phone calls I lerned there is some sort of conference on those dates and every 3* is completely booked. My first 72-hour stint bid was $35 then I used free rebids, exhausting all zones. The second I started at $42, then expanded to all other areas of Burlington, adding $3 each time. Te third time around (finally - success!) I just clicked started at $65 a night and added towns until I hit Stowe and my bid was accepted. I probably could have used a better strategy, but to be honest, this is a $250 a night lodge during the summer and it is a $600+ a night during ski season -- I am as happy as can be! I'll give a review next week -- I am eager to see how the staff treats priceline customers!! Angie
  10. I will absolutely ask for help the next time -- room was not really even up to 3* par! (I am going to leave a review!) Thanks!
  11. I had a heck of a time getting this one. I wanted a 4* in Pittsburgh and got spoiled when I got the Rennaisance for $42 a few months back :o Entered $40 for PItts downtown and 4* then added 3* rejected. Added Cranberry, rejected. Added University Center, rejected. Added Pitts North, rejected. Added West Mifflin, rejected. FINALLY - :) added Green Tree and got a room at the Holiday Inn. I am a bit of a princess :) and nervous about staying with my kids in a Holiday Inn - but being that I am totally broke right now (hubby is a teacher - summers are tough!) I am happy to have the extra $$ to spend at the Children's Museum in Pittsburgh!
  12. Just got back from Cinci and have great things to report on the Millenium... First of all, we were upgraded to a King suite with city view JUST FOR ASKING!! We were there on the weekend and parked across the street... in downtown for the amazing rate of $6! The room was spotless and recently renovated, the bed was comfortable... I am usually a 4* only kind of girl, but I have to say this place was exceptional... and I just kept reminding my husband how IT ONLY COST US $42 and change for the night!!!! I am so glad I found this board!!!!
