  1. There is no Wyndham at Jacksonviile Beach. The Wyndham is on the St John's River downtown.

The Marriott at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra (the TPC -Sawgrass) is a 3.5 star hotel that shows up on PRICELINE. I don't know about HOTWIRE.

The major hotels at Jacksonville Beach are all solid properties. Some are fairly new. Most are near the beach or on it. There is one hotel west of the inter coastal waterway near the Mayo Hospital. There are a few near Mayport Navy Base which are not great areas (but safe).

Let me know what you get. I live in Jacksonville and it is nice to know what is showing up on HOTWIRE.

  4. Hello, I don't know for sure which hotel this is but there are two chain hotels on the other side of AIA, which would be within easy walking distance. There are some smaller hotels as well but its likely a chain hotel. One is a Days Inn and the other is a Hilton Garden Inn. FYI, the historic area of St Augustine is not within walking distance of the beaches.

  5. We spent 4 days at this hotel. We paid $190 a night which is a steal in this area of London.

The location is outstanding. This is the best attribute of this hotel. In the middle of the theatre district, we rarely took the tube in this area as there was so much to do around the hotel.

The hotel itself is interesting. It definitely caters to a younger "hip" crowd and is minimalist in style. Younger travellers would like this hotel (although this older one liked it too). The staff was extremely helpful and priceline was never mentioned. Our room was ready when we arrived, so we checked in early without a problem.

The room was very small and very white. I sometimes felt we were in a picture puzzle (the kind you slide little blocks around until its arranged in a picture). It was very clean.

You walked into the room through a small hallway. The room had a bed, small desk, small TV in a cabinet. A Murphy Bed would have been perfect as there was only walking room around the bed. It took most of the room. The lights above the bed were colors which you could changed. The hallway had a place to put your bag, hang clothes and shelves. This sounds horrible but in a strange way it worked well. Your hallway was sort of a walk in closet. The bathroom only had a shower but was large. Again, there was a shelving area that was very convenient. We asked for and was given a iron and ironing board.

Do not pay for internet service at this hotel without first trying in your room. A nearby coffee house/ restaurant has open internet access which we could get in our room at all times.

Despite its smallness, I loved staying in this hotel because of its location and friendly staff.

  6. I've been to Rome several times. It's getting crowded!

Stay in the Central zone on priceline. Make sure you don't dip to low in the star ratings. And, singles tend to be large closets!

One last thing that, unfortunately, I have to stress to someone going to Rome for the first time -- watch your wallets and purses. Its the pickpocket capital of the world. Also make sure the restaurant will actually run a visa through before you order a meal. So many times they have claimed the machine is broken. (Anyone else having this problem in Italy lately?)

Otherwise, enjoy this wonderful city. Dolce vita! I'm envious. debra

  7. Marriott Atlanta Marquis

    265 Peachtree Center Avenue

    Atlanta, Georgia 30303

    United States

    404-521-0000

    $51 for 10/11/05

    Check-In Date: Friday, November 11, 2005 Check-Out Date: Saturday, November 12, 2005

    Started at $45 - received a counteroffer for $13

added Midtown (free bid) - $51 - accepted.

Given the number of free bids for 4* in Atlanta, I probably could have decreased the step ups.

  8. I am going to a conference at JW Marriott (which shows availability) and since it comes up occassionally, I thought I would give this a try. But, despite the numerous bidding ops, the bids were all unsuccesful. Here is the record of what I did:

    Orlando - (Universal/SW) - Resort : $98

    added FL Mall: $105

    added Kissimme: $115

    added MCO: $120

    added Orlando East : $125

    added Maitland: $130

    added W Disney: $135

    added Winter Garden: $140

    added Winter Park: $145

    added DT: $150

  9. Bidding history:

    $40 - Gwinnett/Duluth - rejected

$45 - added Lawrenceville (free bid) - rejected

    new day:

    $45 - Gwinnett/ Duluth - rejected but countered with $58

$50 - Gwinnett/Duluth and Lawrenceville (Free bid) - rejected (but, interestly, no counter)

    $53 - Gwinnet/Duluth and Lake Lanier - $53 accepted

(Note that Lake Lanier is not technically a free bid\. However, Lake Lanier does not hotels lower than a 3*. And, although I don't expect a hotel in Lake Lanier to win - I'm willing to stay if there if accepted - so I take the chance)

Congratulations, you got your price of $53 for a 2

  10. Bidding History:

    $40 - DT - rec'd counteroffer to add $12 - no, started over

$45 - DT + Midtown (free bid) accepted.

Congratulations, you got your price of $45 for a 4-star hotel room.

  11. I posted my reviews to the Hotel Review board.

And, to answer your question, it was the first day of attempted bidding and here is the history -

    1st - $55 Marble Arch only - rejected

    2d - $57 Marble Arch & Kensington - rejected

    3d - $60 Marble Arch & Mayfair - accepted.

I don't normally try for a Hotel on priceline this early - but with the great deals that everyone is getting for this hotel, I didn't wait.

  12. 4*Hilton London Olympia -- Kensington -- February 2005 for 2 nights for about $65. I really liked this hotel -- with a great staff, wonderful breakfast buffet and large, clean room. The location was near a train station and a 15 minute walk from the Kensington High Tube station. Unfortunately, it was a abit out of the way (at least I felt it was).

  13. 4* Copthorne Tara - Kensington for $78 for 3 nights in March 2004 - I liked this hotel and area. The hotel room was large, with 2 double beds. The decor was okay. The staff was helpful and its a block to the Tube (there's a shortcut). Alot of airline employees stay here. The train track was right outside my windon but I don't remember hearing the trains. There is a great pub if you go west on Kensington about 3 blocks -- to a coffee shop - turn left and its on the right side of the road - sorry, its been awhile and I can't remember the name. The pub is in a residential area. Overall, I would be happy to get this hotel.

  14. 4* London (Bloomsbury-Marble Arch) Thistle Marble Arch

    Subtotal: $300.00

    $63.43

    Total Charges: $363.43

    1st - $55 Marble Arch only - rejected

    2d - $57 MA & Kensington - rejected

    3d - $60 MA & Mayfair - accepted.

I'm looking forward to staying in this area. I have stayed 2x in Kensington, and while a great area - I'm up for something new.

BTW, I have stayed at several hotels (since finding this site). If you like, I can go back and try to recreate these on the website nat the appropriate places. Here they are in a nutshell.

4* Regents Park- Hilton London Metropole. 2 nights in March 2004 for around $75 - 80. The hotel was great, and near a Tube station. The Executive lounge was wonderful with a great breakfast and evening snacks. However, I hated the area around the hotel.

4*Millennium Gloucester - Kensington -- February 2005 for about $75 for 3 nights. This is a great location with several Tube stations virtually at your door, a Starbucks (for free internet access) and supermarket across the street and just a great area in general. Our first room was a problem --- very small and only a double bed even though we called ahead to book two singles. The second room was great - they moved us when we complained (but grudgingly). I found the front desk rather snobbish but the concierge desk very helpful. Also, don't even think about checking in early at this hotel - but they will check your bags. Overall, I would stay here again, despite the problems.
