  1. Check-In Date: Friday, June 18, 2010

    Check-Out Date: Sunday, June 20, 2010

Hotel Name: Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel

    Your Offer Price: $85.00

    Number of Rooms: 1

    Number of Nights: 2

    Subtotal: $170.00

    Taxes and Fees: $33.06

    Total Charges*: $203.06

Started at $75; added one zone and bid $79; added another zone and bid $85

Non-cancelable, non-refundable rooms were available from the Sheraton web site at $99. I thought I would try to save a few bucks... I've stayed there before; great value for this property.

    I used your PRICELINE link.

  2. Got it for $80, $99.77 with taxes and service fees.

I started my bidding at $75; rejected; but got a message that, for one time only, I could up my bid by $22 and get a 4* for the zone and dates that I had selected. First time I got this message. Or I could continue "the regular way".

Decided to add $5 to my bid, along with another zone, and my $80 bid was accepted. So, in the end, I got the hotel for $80 instead of the $97 that Priceline was kindly suggesting.

Started my bidding from this web site, of course.

  3. I'm not crazy about splitting my stay (just don't want the hassle during a short business trip) but you must have read my mind about the Eastgate Tower; I was thinking about it as I've stayed there several times and like the property/location. I used your Quikbook link to book it as a backup. The rate is decent (much better value than the convention hotels) and maybe something even better will come along in the next three months.

  4. I also bid MTE, and used UES and UWS for rebids.

Ultimately, I want to be either in MTE or MTS. I've never stayed at the Morgans. Traditionally, I've found prices to be lower in MTE than MTS. I go to NYC every year for the Fancy Food Show and prices seem to be trending high this year (looking at the range of convention hotels that I just received). I would be happy to get a 4* in either MTE or MTS around $150; not sure I could get better than that, realistically.

Maybe I should just book that Hotwire 4* in MTS, and the mystery surrounding that property will be solved for all of us?...

Besides the Morgan, which other property comes to your mind that could fit the amenities and the zone?

  5. Hotwire is showing a 4* in MTS for $158, 07/07-07/10/0

Amenities listed are:breakfast, fitness, business and restaurant.

It's also listed as 3.5 satisfaction on tripadvisor

The Hotwire hotel list doesn't show a matching property for these amenities but the Breakfast icon and the cross-reference info with tripadvisor makes me think it stands a good chance to be the Morgans. What do you guys think?

  6. Your Offer Price: $75.00

    Number of Rooms: 1

    Number of Nights: 1

    Subtotal: $75.00

    Taxes & Service Fees: $18.45

    Total Charges*: $93.45

This was my first bid! It looked like Le Meridien was showing up on Hotwire for $103 and I thought I could possibly get it on Priceline for $85-90 but this is even better.

Sadly, I got side-tracked and didn't book through savingsbarn.com this time; I feel bad about this because the information on this board has helped me get several good deals in the past. I use a Mac and I was juggling with several browsers (for some reason, Safari always seems to crash after a few clicks when I'm on this site). I also realized that I could no longer see which star levels were offered in the different zones if I used Safari, Explorer or Netscape. Another site (that shall remain nameless...) recommended that Mac users log onto Priceline with Firefox. So, I downloaded Firefox, went directly to Priceline to check out if the information was now complete, spaced-out, and proceeded to bid without going back to savingsbarn.com :)

I posted a note regarding Mac browsers in the Priceline tips and tricks section so that other users will be aware of this.

  7. If you have a Mac, you should use Firefox when browsing on Priceline. Safari, Explorer and Netscape do not show which categories of hotels are available in a given zone; and that information is critical if you want to use free rebids.

My experience is that Firefox will show if a particular Priceline zone has 4*, 3*, Boutique, etc. whereas the "other three" browsers won't.

  8. Your Offer Price: $140.00

    Number of Rooms: 1

    Number of Nights: 3

    Subtotal: $420.00

    Taxes and Service Fees: $80.98

    Total Charges: $500.98

Good deal and I'm happy. This was my first bid... I guess I could have started a bit lower! But hotel prices in NYC have been so high all year, I didn't think I could get a 4* for less than $140 during the Gift Show.

  9. I followed your advice and booked the Beekman through EasyClickTravel (I couldn't get to the Beekman by following your link but found it "off the record"). I also book my flight by accessing united.com through your Travel Links.

No luck on Priceline this weekend, though. I posted my results in the appropriate section.

  10. The Beekman at this rate has a $25 cancellation fee.

I actually like the Midtown East area a lot because it is more quiet. I've stayed at other Affinia properties before (Eastgate Towers, Affinia Manhattan just as they had finished remodeling last July) and very much enjoyed the extra room. I usually spend my days at the Javits convention center and either use Show Shuttles or cabs to get there.

The Doubletree Metropolitan looks like a decent deal and would be a touch more convenient regarding Show Shuttles, but I don't mind walking a few blocks either.

I haven't stayed at the Beekman yet but I'm very curious about it. It would also give me the opportunity to explore the area along the East River.

Then again, a 4* for $150 would be fine; areas in order of preference would be Midtown East, Upper Midtown, Midtown South, Midtown West. I haven't tried bidding yet.
