This was a crazy bidding process because this is the SF Marathon weekend. I bid up to $169 for 4* hotels in the city and up to $159 for 3.5 stars and didn't get anything, which is so unusual for San Fran.

I decided the airport would be pretty cheap, and it was, though not nearly as cheap as it normally is.

I bid on this area at $59 +10 bonus cash--no luck.

I added USW for a free rebid for $69 +10--no luck.

Finally, I added, USE for $79+10 and got the airport Hyatt.

Wow--I can't believe you got that. I have been bidding on SF 4*s for that weekend for weeks, up to $146. I'm guessing that the Saturday is the issue....

Sorry! It's only one night--Tuesday, May 6! I bid for 5* Strip on May 9 and went up to $151 and didn't get it, though I did get a counteroffer of $177. Guess I'll try again later.

:) Bid $125, added Strip South, bid $139 and it was accepted. I was expecting to pay $139 since that seems to be the lowest rate usually available.

Sorry, haven't posted in awhile, so I can't remember the format, but I wanted to pay it forward. I'm a business traveler, so I'm probably looking for something a little different than some folks in Vegas. I had bid in this zone recently for a 4* and ended up at the Renaissance, which I love. I'm sure the Hard Rock will be great, though. I only bid once at $69, and it was accepted. Last time, it took a couple bids to get the Renaissance, and it ended up being $87.

Oh, and I didn't start bidding at $194. I started at $85 and then bid in increments of $5 with free re-bids. I even had to wait for three days to pass so I could pick up where I left off at $159. August is not the best time to find deals in San Diego!

Little disappointed, guess I got caught up in the bidding frenzy, because I should have not big so much in this area. I had been bidding from $114 in increments of $5. It's a hot vacation time, I suppose.

:) Thanks. You're right. I will try again. I was just upset. I will post the result when I try again! I also learned that there are over 1,200 nonsmoking rooms in the hotel, so the odds are in my favor.

:) Wish I had read the bid below first! I got two rooms for 9/3-9/5 for $80 each. However, I'm fine about the $24. What bothers me is that when I called to request nonsmoking and rooms near one another, I said that I know you can't guarantee anything, but I would like to request that. The reservation agent immediately said that I should have booked through them if I had any "special" requests like nonsmoking and that she couldn't make ANY requests. I have booked with Priceline often, and I've often had hotels warn me that they couldn't guarantee, but it's annoying that they won't even put in the request. Anyone else had that experience?

4* Renaissance 55 Parc Hotel for $71, $87 w/ taxes

Tried $60, $65, finally succeeded at $71

After $65, it told me it would let me re-bid if I added $17 to my bid. Ha! :) I added one of the many other areas without 4* in San Fran. (Civic Ctr., Cathedral, Fisherman's, Airport, South) and got it in $6!

I ended up getting a Radisson by the airport for $99/night--not on Priceline. I didn't get anything--even a 3*--for $110 on Priceline.

This is a 4* Redondo Beach-Torrance. Amenities are a restaurant, pool, fitness center, tennis nearby, high-speed access and laundry. Dates are 2/13-2/15.

I am anticipating it being more difficult due to Valentine's Day weekend. I did not get anything for $70 at the three-star level in Santa Monica for 2/13-2/15. Nor did I get West Hollywood for $70 at 3*.

I agree that the Doubletree doesn't look that nice. Maybe I'll just up my bid to $85 or $90 and hope I get a 4* in Santa Monica, West Hollywood or Beverly Hills.

This will be my first trip to LA. I really just want a nice hotel in a nice neighborhood. Santa Monica isn't THAT important to me. Is there another good area where I might hae more luck?
