AaronJB
The 3.5/5 tripadvisor rating on the detail page for this listing would be a match for the Hyatt. Please use the site's HOTWIRE link to start your purchase, or please feel free to ask if you have any questions or would like other recommendations. cburns1022
My husband and I are planning a weekend in Chicago, 6/27 - 6/29. Would you suggest a Hotwire hotel in the Magnificient Mile area or the North Michigan Avenue area? Is there a preference, one area over the other? Thanks for you help. Link to comment
cburns1022
AaronJB,Thanks for your quick reply! For some reason my computer does not show the T.A. rating when I'm in Hotwire, so I wasn't able to see that rating to further help me narrow it down. Thanks again!I will be sure to use your HOTWIRE link if and when I book. AaronJB
Please keep all posts in the same thread. The NMA-Water Tower-Gold Coast area is essentially the upper half of the North Michigan Ave. shopping area, while the Mag Mile-Streeterville area is the South half of the Michigan Ave. shopping area and the nearby River North area. One isn't really preferable over the other. PRICELINE, for example, considers this one large area.I'd prefer either over staying in the Loop, however. Is this your first visit to Chicago? Please ask if you have any city questions. Link to comment
cburns1022
Thanks for your help. Just one more question:I found on Hotwire what I believe is the Hotel Indigo for the same nights, 6/27 - 6/29. It's $30 more per night than the Hyatt but looks very nice. Would you recommend the Hotel Indigo over the Hyatt Regency? Thanks! It's been about 15 years since we've been to Chicago, to answer your previous question. What's the typical charge for parking per night? I've read it runs about $50. Is that accurate? AaronJB
Chicago Hotel Parking can run anywhere from the $30's to just over $50. It depends on the hotel. If you are driving in, there are some beautiful areas outside the city where very nice hotels are reasonable and parking is free. However, it's a matter of then taking the Metra trains (which are very nice, although don't run as often on the weekend - although one can buy a $5 unlimited pass to take the Metra trains Saturday and Sunday) into the city. For example, there's a 3.5* in Northbrook for $69 + free parking = $69.I am a fan of the Indigo (which appears on HOTWIRE as a 3.5* in the NMA-Water Tower-GC area with the amenities Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Golf, Tennis, Spa); it's not the most centrally located hotel, but it's in a very nice area and public transit is easily accessible. It's a very cute property, with bright colors, hardwood floors and cute furniture. It's more "home-y" feeling than most of the business-oriented downtown properties. It's located in the Gold Coast neighborhood, which is about a 4-5 minute stroll to Michigan Ave. The Oak St. Boutique stores are also a few minutes walk away, as is the beach.I'm seeing what appears to be the Indigo for $104 on HOTWIRE (you may see a slightly different price.) If this was the Indigo, parking is $37 = $141.The Lincoln Park Zoo is also a lovely 15 minute walk North of the Indigo.I do think it's best to stay in the city, but I offered the suburban suggestion if you don't mind a bit of a trek downtown in order to save about half. The Northbrook area is quite nice and has some nearby attractions (Chicago Botanic Garden is in a nearby burb, and there are quite a few restaurants nearby.)Please use the site's HOTWIRE link and feel free to ask any questions. AaronJB
The Hyatt is fine if you are just looking for a place to sleep and it is centrally located. However, if you are looking for a boutique with more personal service and more personality, I'd recommend the potential Indigo.Metra trains (mentioned in the above post): Metrarail.com Link to comment
cburns1022
Thanks so much for all the information! We're definitely interested in staying in the city but appreciate your suggestions for various options. I'm leaning towards booking the Indigo, using your HOTWIRE link, of course. Thanks again! cburns1022
Unfortunately, our travel dates fell through due to unexpected "obligations." We will not be booking Chicago at this time. Hopefully in the near future though! Link to comment
