Have a budget of $200 a night, would like to know if it is good to bid early (is 9months away) or wait till near the time!

4* would be preferred.

Since you mention above that you prefer a 4* hotel i assume you want to first try up to your limit for a 4* property and you're goal is not the least expensive 3* or better in any of the zones you've selected. If that is the case:

At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)

Select 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, ESB...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone4...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone5...

Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, ESB and re-bid zone6...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

At this point in time, based upon seasonal trends, i don't think i'd bid above $165. Likewise, if rejected, do you want to lower your star rating to a 3* hotel this far ahead of your stay?

I wouldn't want to go to 3 star till closer to the time.

How often would you try doing this? every day? every week?

Thanks for the advice but due to financial circumstances we ended up cancelling our trip to NYC. :) Didnt get anywhere with the lower bids at the time but thanks for the help.
