HI, I Have been reading some of the threads of bidding so I tried yesterday. I am willing pretty well much to stay in most of the zones in Manhatten as long as its close to the subway.

So I tried out at MTS - 4* - $150 (no luck)

continued on with MTE, MTW, TS, SOHO (each time raising my price up to $180) - still no luck.

I then tried going down to 3* - $150 (no luck), worked up to $170 and still no luck.

Do you have any tips ?

Also, I keep reading about using/hitting the links (which I tried).

Thanks

Welcome to BetterBidding!

What is your maximum bid at the 4* level? At the 3* level? Based upon your previous bidding i assume you're willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3* (ie- you'd like to try up to your maximum bid first for a 4* and then lower the bid and try for a 3*, correct?)

Do you have a back-up plan? What is the best available rate you're able to find thru conventional methods? (use our BetterChecker to assist in your rate search)

Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly.

Thank you for your reply. I think I would be willing to pay up to $225 for 4* but I really would not like to that route unless if I had no choice. Ideally and realistically I want to pay around $160-170 for 3* hotel. I will be out and around Manhatten most of the day and probably only in the hotel at night for sleeping. So 3 or 4* does not matter much, in fact 2 or 2.5 * would probably be fine.

I am still wondering how people are able to get the same quality star hotel at lower prices than me when I bid higher and still rejected.

Thanks.

Do you think if I keep trying everyday that I will eventually win one between $150-$170 for 3 star ? Some say I won't win.

I have read many of the threads and people's techniques.

Some people say to wait until the last few days and they may drop the rates, but then again I am playing a dangerous game because I am going to NY for sure in a couple of weeks and its not going to be very good landing and having no place to stay.

Thanks for your advice.

  • 1 month later...

well I ended up going to New York but pretty much struck out with Priceline. I kept on bidding to around $200 between 3 or 4 star hotels. I got nothing so my family in New York set me up at the Gerswhin Hotel. Okay place, 1.5 star place. My family ended up taking care of the bill so I can't tell how much they paid.

Its a pity because I was really hoping to get a hotel through the PRICELINE link.

I am hoping to get something on priceline on my next trip.

oh some people told me that if I really wanted to get something in Manhatten for cheap I would of have to make my bid many more months ahead of time.
