Priceline Hotel: Please help w/ MTE 9/24-9/28

My husband has a last minute business trip to NYC and we have decided to try and make a family vacation out of it. His meetings are in Times Square and Rockefeller Center so we would like to be fairly close to those two locations if possible. Ideally we would like a 4* and 2 beds but I know that Priceline will not guarantee the beds option. Is it better to try Hotwire or Priceline for this trip? When I look at Hotwire I don't see anything close to downtown but I am also a novice and may not be seeing something. The dates for the trip are somewhat flexible and we can arrive on either 9/24 or 9/25 and departure date is also flexible being 9/28 or 9/29. Since it is only a couple of weeks away, I could really use some advice from someone with experience in navigating this. TIA!

If you've already started your search i'm sure you've found that rates are very high. What is your nightly budget for this trip?

Also, are you familiar with NYC at all, as you mention you want to be near Times Square and Rock Center, but then mention that HOTWIRE doesn't show any hotels downtown... these two areas (Times Square/Rock Center and Downtown are not really near each other)

Sorry, 'downtown' was a mistype. I meant midtown and no, I am not extremely familiar with NYC as I have never been there. Ideally we would like to stay under $300 per night if possible. We could maybe stretch a little bit higher but $400+ will not work at all. Thank you for your advice and help. 3* hotel would also be fine if the price is good.

Are you going to be triple or quad occupancy?

Quad - two adults and two children under the age of 4.

I don't think priceline is an option for this stay since they only guarantee double occupancy and there are many hotels in NYC for which the rooms only have one bed and can't accomodate a rollaway.

That leaves HOTWIRE, and you say that nothing is showing for your dates.

Have you seen any conventional bookings within your budget? (i was having trouble finding anything at $300 or less at the 4* level)

I haven't been able to find any sort of 3* or 4* hotel under $400 per night, with most being over $500.

Can you possibly identify this Hotwire hotel?

I am guessing Holiday Inn Express but since I haven't used Hotwire before, I am a little nervous.

The above is a match for the Holiday Inn Express so that would be our best guess. (and this is a frequently used hotel by board members seeking more than double occupancy in NYC)

I was asked by the mod to update this super old post for some reason. We did NOT use priceline or hotwire for this stay and we booked directly through the hotel we picked to insure getting the proper room type and location. Sorry for the bump for all of you who don't care about a stay back from September 07.

Ideally, all threads on the board should have a conclusion/resolution... surely knowing that you didn't choose to go with Priceline or HOTWIRE for this stay, and choose to book one direct, is better information for future readers to know then be left wondering what you ultimately did, if you had success and didn't follow-up the thread, or gave up trying.
