I also stayed at the Hilton Islington using Priceline. I'd agree with the review above. Here are the positives and negatives I found with this hotel:

Pluses

* The hotel is in a lively, cosmopolitan and relatively safe area of London.

* The location is also very convenient for the tube (Angel station is 3 mins walk), buses (many bus stops near the hotel) and local shopping (M&S, Woolworths, Sainsburys all nearby.)

* The hotel is in the middle of the busy Islington main street, so there's lots of restaurants, bars, pubs and cafes right outside.

* The majority of the main street restaurants are very reasonably priced for London. I found an Italian eatery, La Forchetta (leave the hotel, go left down the steps & it's about 10 yards/meters on the left.) serving nice pasta and pizza for

I had a three-night stay at the Hilton Islington @ $95 / night on a Priceline award in May 2008.

If you get this hotel for a sub-$100 PL bid, be happy; this is a GREAT deal at a modern, friendly hotel with premium amenities a few Tube stops away from the heart of London.

The Islington high street (Upper Street) is buzzing with people, pubs, restaurants, and shops almost around the clock. There are antique malls and markets aplenty, and the neighborhood is ideal for an evening pub crawl. But the hotel is set back from the roadway about 100 yards so the rooms are very quiet.

Extremely accommodating and friendly staff showed no snooty anti-Priceline attitude and indeed let me check in at 12:30pm... I have been treated far worse in London at hotels where I was paying the full whack. I was given room 479 on the top floor. The staff willingly accepted my Hilton HHonors number and said I would get stay credit and points for money spent on incidentals.

Room equipped with large flat-screen TV, complimentary coffee / tea / water, iron, toiletries and wi-fi. Average size for a European hotel room (e.g., slightly smaller than US standard). The hotel is laid out like a big square; rooms on the inside of the square overlook a barren courtyard and have no view.

Underground station Angel is three or four minutes' walk from the hotel. Angel is on the Northern Line Bank (western) branch; you are one stop from King's Cross / St. Pancras, where you can transfer to the Piccadilly, Victoria, Hammersmith & City, and Circle lines and get anywhere else in London. Covent Garden is about fifteen minutes away by Tube; Heathrow Airport, one hour. Numerous bus lines also traverse Upper Street in Islington so you can get direct to Piccadilly Circus and Victoria Station, among other places. Between the nice neighborhood and the great transit options this is a good place to make an economical base for touring the city.

Minor negatives: the hotel's food, bar, etc. services are very expensive and not worth the price. Car parking is GBP36.00 per night, maybe approaching your Priceline room rate!, if you are brazen enough to bring your own vehicle into London. And if you take a taxi to / from central London, traffic crawls along and the meter runs; taxi fare from the Hilton to Westminster Abbey was GBP15, and a car/driver organized by the hotel for me on short notice was even pricier at GBP20.

When you consider what people routinely pay for 4* or 5* London hotels, though, this is a wonderful arrangement at Priceline rates.

We had a one night stay here, and I pretty much have nothing to add to what the previous posters have said. It's a great hotel for under $100, the neighborhood is safe, clean, and has a ton of dining options, and it's a short walk from the Angel tube station. My only gripe was internet access runs
