Hotwire Hotel: Arizona (Scottsdale) Hotels

My fiancee and I really want to do a trip to the Scottsdale area over Feb 20-24th but right now prices seem to be outrageous. I noticed a couple of last minute (<2 week bidders) deals on the Hyatt 4.5* property in Scottsdale at $99 and $79. Right now, 4.5* hotels on hotwire are $300+ in this area. Is it normal to see drops like this last minute in this area, or should we just book and take what we can get right now, which seems to be the Saguaro for $99 a night.

What's the best time to book in this area?

Unfortunately, rates - especially at higher-end properties - do seem unusually high for these dates (I'd guess something going on - Spring Training was a guess, but that apparently starts a week or two later.) In terms of prices dropping, there's no way to know for sure - a detailed discussion of timing is available in the FAQ. If there is something going on during the date/s, rates may stay high or possibly move higher. You could try grabbing a fully refundable back-up, then waiting to see if prices come down a bit closer to your stay.

what would be your budget per night at the 4.5* level? Additionally, which zone/s would be acceptable?

Good tip that it seems like something may be going on in the area for these dates - our luck!

I'd be willing to pay int he $150 range for somewhere 4-4.5 stars. I'm really surprised at how sky high the rates are for the nicer hotels.

Are both Scottsdale and North Scottsdale acceptable OR only one of these? Also, did you want to first bid for a 'Resort' class hotel up to your limit, then if rejected start over at the 4* level... OR is your goal the least expensive 4* or better for this stay?
