Hotwire Hotel: 4* SJU

I am looking to book a post cruise over night for a group. As we will be getting off the ship early in the morning and heading to the hotel, what are the chances we can check in early? Do they have a place for luggage if the rooms are not ready (in general)?

Hotels vary in offering early check-in. And for that matter, even a particular hotel will vary depending upon room availability.

For an early morning check-in, the room probably would have to have been vacant the night before. Or a VERY VERY early departure from the prior occupant and a VERY early cleaning.

Those big cruise ships actually have a staggered schedule in ports so they aren't all arriving at the same time and leaving at the same time. This tends to smooth the hotel occupancy out and reduces the number of empty rooms.

I suspect the only way you could be sure of availability would be to rent the room for the prior night also.

However, hotels almost always will let one leave luggage temporarily.

K2P,

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Please start by reading your messages.

You won't likely be able to guarantee an early check-in regardless of how you booked, especially in a port area with ships having embarkation/disembarkation. As Romelle points out above, it will all be based upon occupancy levels the night before and what is available at the time of check-in. Hotels, especially in this area are used to this turnover, and ill have a place to store your bags.

What are the dates of your stay and do you know how many rooms/guests you will be? What is your desired star rating and target budget per nite?

I am also at what looks to be the Intercontinental for $134. This has gone up $10. How often do the prices change and what is the likelihood that this will come back down in price on Hotwire

I have used Priceline in the past and never had a problem when I am traveling with my kids. We have always been able to get 2 beds for the 4 of us. I am now traveling to SJU and I am wondering if the hotel can refuse us a room if we book it on priceline? There is not option to specify kids, and I know I am risking the need to pay for a cot or have 1 bed, but can they refuse to allow the kids in the room? Has anyone heard of this happening or am I just freaking out for nothing?

Are you familiar with Puerto Rico, as the Rio Grande Humacao is not ideally where you'd want to stay pre-cruise, imo.

HOTWIRE prices can fluctuate from one search to the next, and $10 difference is certainly within the realm of this fluctuation. However, the rate can sometimes increase if you change from searching for fewer rooms to more rooms... was the lower rated offered when searching for the same number of rooms and/or same number of guests?

This can happen in any city. Usually the risk is having to pay extra (and you're basically at the mercy of the hotel to charge whatever they'd like for a cot and/or upgraded room), but there could be a scenario where the hotel is near capacity and/or sold-out and not able to provide a room which can accommodate quad occupancy, and if the hotel chose to do so, could deny you a room (should the room, for example, by fire code room only be designated for double occupancy)

How many rooms/guests do you need?

This is for a post- cruise stay with an early morning departure. We need four rooms (2 with quad occupancy). The price is for the same search 2 weeks apart. Do you think it will come back down or only go up at this point (we cruise in Feb)?

We're going to use different threads for your pre-cruise and post cruise stays. We'll use this thread for your PRE-cruise stay, and we'll move the pertinent posts regarding your post cruise stay to a NEW TOPIC... once they're separated we'll see the questions for each and reply accordingly.

If i'm following along thus far, your post cruise stay is 2/26-2/27 and you're searching for 4rooms/10guests? What is the breakdown of adults/children? (or are you only searching for 4rooms/8guests and taking your chances??)

RE: Rio Grande Humacao, is this a serious consideration? As i noted above regarding the location, it's further from the airport then San Juan and therefore would require a longer trip to the airport for your early departure, and probably more importantly, the cab fare from the pier to the hotel, then from hotel to cruise pier, will likely be substantially more as well. (on a side note, although much improved over the years, SJU can be a bit of a zoo... plans for a bit more time then you think is necessary)
