amberlo
After seeing someone else get the Hyatt for $65 around this time, I was hopeful, but we didn't get it for 5/4-5/7, 5/4-5/8, 5/4-5/9 - finally gave up trying to get 5/4 and changed check in to 5/5-5/9 and it worked for the Palmer House. Now we'll be trying to get something for the 4th.. and in addition, the TripAdvisor reviews for this place are really mixed. I see through research it underwent a $150 million renovation from 2007 - 2009, but it seems some rooms weren't upgraded - they couldn't have possibly been, with peeling wallpaper and old tube TVs. So, as with the Hyatt, we'll have to carefully do our research to land in a good room that's undergone the upgrades. Link to comment

AaronJB
The Palmer is one of the oldest continually running hotels in the country. The lobby is incredibly epic and beautiful, but the historic style doesn't really extend to the rooms, which vary to a pretty decent degree (there are actually some rather unique rooms that are not suites, but have two bathrooms) due to the age of the property. The public spaces are grand, but the rooms are a bit more convention-oriented. Like a number of other properties in the city, the Palmer is great for a price - I think it's certainly fine for discounted rates, but I'd be less pleased at $150-200+ regular rates. I'd call and politely ask if there were any rooms looking out over State St; they may not be huge rooms, but if you get a nice view, that may make the room feel more open/bigger. Link to comment
