Could somebody help me? I went to Hotwire and requested a room for two people for Saturday, May 7th and Sunday, May 8th. Several things came up, including a four-star downtown for $127 (which I'm assuming is the Golden Nugget). But on the Strip, the following came up:

5-star Customer Favorite. Selected amenities include: Casino, Restaurant(s), Pool(s), Fitness Center, Spa Services, high-speed internet asscess, golf nearby, tennis nearby. $195 a night.

Is this the Venetian?

3 1/2 Stars. Customer Favorite. Selected amenities include: Casino, Restaurants(s), Pools(s), Fitness Center, Spa Services, Golf Nearby, Tennis Nearby, Business Center. $118 a night.

Is this Harrah's?

3 stars. Selected amenities include: Casino, Restaurant(s), Pools(s), Fitness Center, Golf Nearby, Tennis Nearby, Business Center, laundry Facilities (self-service). $134 a night.

In all honesty, none of these prices sound great, but if the 5-star is the Bellagio, that might be worth it.

Thanks,

Dave

The 5* above is in all likelihood the Venetian. (please use this HOTWIRE link if you book it)

Not sure if it's worthwhile looking at the other properties as you don't seem interested in them and i think there are similarly priced hotels with better ratings:

TREASURE ISLAND can be had for $140/nite.

BOARDWALK can be had for under $100/each nite.

Are any of the above viable? If not, what sort of alternatives are you seeing that are within your price range?

You can try our new tool: Vegas Rate Checker to see different rates at various properties (more to be added soon)

I'm not really a big fan of the Venetian. I was hoping somebody had either the Bellagio or the Mirage (preferred), or possibly the Monte Carlo or Flamingo. I'd like a hotel with a poker room (yes, I know, I can go to another hotel for the poker room, but I'd rather have one in my hotel for late nights). The Golden Nugget would be okay, but I think the downtown hotels are pretty well booked that weekend with the World Series going on. I wouldn't mind being in the $120 range, but I know that will be impossible for the Bellagio and the Mirage.

Yes, I'll try your hotel checker.

By the way, on your advice, I stayed at the Grand Hyatt in New York City a few months ago. As you probably know, renovations there are totally complete, and the hotel is very nice (although very large, too). Check in and check out was smooth, beds were remarkably comfortable, and the location is great. I was very surprised by how nice it was.

Ended up not booking one of the more expensive hotels on the Strip. Ended up going the super-bargain route and staying at Binion's downtown, which I booked right through the hotel. I don't know how Binion's is these days (hasn't it changed ownership?), but as of last year, it was a passable, clean hotel considering the price. A pretty good choice if all you need is a place to sleep between gambling, and right across the street from the Golden Nugget.
