Priceline Hotel: 3.5-4* in NYC Times Square or MTW

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

Rates do vary by dates and longer-term stays may be a little harder to get in NYC at times, as hotel may not have discounted inventory for 7+ days straight. Additionally, rates vary from day-to-day; what may be the required bids for one set of days would quite likely not be what is required for a different set of dates.

Are you only looking for TS and MTW? Have you made any bids so far - if so, what areas/star ratings/prices?

Hi,

was currently just looking at 3.5 and 4* hotels in MTW and TS.

It't my first time visit in NY and thought best place to stay is close to Times Square, or where it's maybe better?

I already booked a backup today at about 250 USD (incl. taxes...) per night in NY Helmsley Hotel incl. breakfast for the stay 01-11 may

Can I just try everyday in TSQ and MTW to get something up to max 170 USD?

You think it's better to split 1-6 and 6-11 may?

How high did you bid in the MTW zone already?

Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay?

You really don't need to be near Times Square... most midtown zones work fine for the average visitor (there are some caveats and zones you may want to include/exclude depending on star rating, but once you answer the question above we'll be able to provide further details). See this thread Hotels Near Times Square for some of our additional thoughts.

I think you have a chance at the complete stay at ~$170 (may take just slightly more) if you include other nearby zones which, in my opinion, would work just as well for your needs.

Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there.

My aim was a total price incl. taxes of up to 1900 USD and WiFi on the room for a 3.5 or 4* hotel if this is near Times Square as I though before I need to be there. But now I heard that also the buses and underground can be used 24h so it maybe would also be fine to be not directly at Times Square.

Which areas could you suggest for a 10 nights first time visit for a couple in NYC? And which price limit for 3-4* hotels in which area?

Many thx for your help.

Currently i'm guessing a 3.5*/4* is likely going to run you about $170-$185/nite... 3* perhaps closer to $160 or so.

Which zones are best depends upon which star level you'd like to try for, so let us know your thoughts on how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.

Today I could get the Four Points by Sheraton Midtown Times Square for about 212 USD per night for 10 nights 01-11 may 2011 included taxes, Wifi, bottle of water. No cancellation possible.

Do you think I could get a better price for a similar or better hotel near may? Or will the prices increase?

I've already booked a back up NY Helmsley for about 234 USD per night incl taxes and breakfast.

Your rate at the Four Points amount to ~$180 bid on PRICELINE... deduct ~$10 for internet (since the hotel you receive may or may not charge) and you're about ~$170 bid.

This puts you at the low end of the range for a 3.5* or 4* hotel or getting a 3* hotel for a bit less. So it comes down to how much you want to know the property before your book, how much you want a 4* vs. a 3.5* vs. a 3*, and your budget.

Nobody can say whether rates will come down between now and your stay... or if they will go even higher. However, for thoughts on 'book early or late' see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.

Hi,

I'm planning a trip at similar dates (May 8-16). Tried getting the Sheraton price you've mentioned but got much more. How did you get such a price?

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

Prices change (often significantly) from day-to-day, especially in a major city like NYC. If your dates aren't exactly the same, you will - especially during a busy period like Spring where prices can be more volatile - likely see different prices.

Hi,

just booked the Roosevelt Cozy Queens room for 10 nights 01-11 May 2011.

Price incl. taxes about 182 USD per night.

Can I do better on priceline? Mustn be the Roosevelt.

I think you could likely do better, but there is no way to guarantee the Roosevelt. I think my wonder is whether you could also possibly get a 4* in MTE for a similar price point ($150-170.) May not work, but something worth considering (I'd start lower and work up to a bit under what you've paid for the Roosevelt.)

But using 150 USD in priceline would already be same price as I did as I booked already incl. taxes and i can cancel until 1 day before...

That would be if you were to attempt to try to get a 4* for a similar price to what you got the Roosevelt for (starting at $135 for a 4* bid in MTE and working up by $5's.)

If you were to bid for a 3.5* in MTE, I'd start at $105 and work up by $5's.
