starlight1384
I need a hotel for 3 people for 4 nights, from 7/18-7/22. I am pretty flexible with the area of town I stay in, but would prefer midtown east, midtown central, central park south or chelsea. Chelsea is probably my last choice, but I would be fine with that area. I'm hoping for at least a 3.5*, but ideally a 4*. There are 3 of us and two queen beds would be nice, but I'm wondering how to request something like this. Also, are there any bidding strategies anyone can recommend? I'm hoping for no more than $160 per night including taxes. Should I wait a few more months to book? Any help is appreciated! Link to comment
yellowdog
PRICELINE only guarante a room for two adults, that could mean one bed only. And NYC is (in)famous for small rooms. If you really need a room that sleeps 3 guests would i say that HOTWIRE is the better option for you. You can search up to a quad room at HOTWIRE.Sure, you can take a chance with PRICELINE but the hotel can say no to a room that sleeps 3 guests. And you can't request a room for 3 before you bid at PRICELINE. Is this a risk you're willing to take?Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise further.Yellowdog.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. starlight1384
The hotel can say no to 3 guests when I show up at the counter with 3 guests? Do most hotels offer rollaways? Do you know what the likelihood of getting two queens would be? A rollaway would be fine, but I'm not sure that's an option at most hotels. I really just want a good rate, but someone sleeping on the floor isn't an option. I was looking at hotwire but found it's much more expensive for the dates I am looking at as compared with priceline wins I have seen on this board for July. Link to comment
thereuare
The hotel can say no to 3 guests when I show up at the counter with 3 guests?Yes... especially in NYC where rooms with more than one bed are often considered upgrades and there are many rooms which as per fire code can only accommodate double occupancy.Do most hotels offer rollaways?Again, in NYC, not necessarily... many rooms in new york city are too small to accommodate a rollaway.I was looking at hotwire but found it's much more expensive for the dates I am looking at as compared with priceline wins I have seen on this board for July. Are you comparing HOTWIRE's triple occupancy rate to PRICELINE's double occupancy rate? Searching for triple occupancy usually does increase the room rate in NYC.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. AaronJB
Booking a refundable back-up may be a good idea - while unfortunately likely more than you were hoping to spend, if possibly having someone sleeping on the floor is something you definitely do not want to risk, then I would explore other options than PRICELINE, such as HOTWIRE, Travelocity's "Top Secret" options or making a back-up reservation now that's refundable and then watching HOTWIRE to see if a better deal appears - if it does, then you could cancel the refundable back-up and book the HOTWIRE deal. If not, then at least you have something set. PRICELINE is just too much of a risk in NYC with two beds - the hotel could definitely say no, even if rooms w/two beds (which, again, often go for a premium in NYC) are available. If you search on Expedia for 3 adults in NYC, you'll see a number of hotels that show no availability, due to max 2 adults in rooms. Please use the site's regular rate links in the Support/Travel link section to book regular or discounted rates. starlight1384
I just decided to book something through the hotel's website. I found a tripadvisor code for 20% off a stay and booked the Distrikt hotel, which is #10 on tripadvisor for all NY hotels, for $199 for two doubles. It's also refundable, so I'll be on the lookout for a better deal as the summer approaches. Thanks for your advice! Link to comment
