We are going to bid a on Resort at Waikiki Beach, and will be staying for 3 nights in early October. Our parents are flying in a day or two later, and will stay with us 1 night (maybe 2 nights). Would that make a difference in the price? Should we disclose upfront? Thank you!!

Please follow-up your previous Priceline Paris thread with whatever you ended up doing for that stay... then bump this thread and we'll have a look at the above.

PS. Allways follow-up your threads with whatever you end up doing, even if you chose to book direct, cancell your trip, etc.

I just went back and checked and I did follow up on my Paris stay. I had the information of how I bid, what was actually accepted, the hotel, the price, and the dates. Am I missing something?

This link will take you to your last post in that thread... and i don't see any of the information you're referencing in regards to what you bid, received, dates, etc.

Thanks... i have merged the two threads.

If you bid on PRICELINE all that is guaranteed is a double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel. Therefore, you could get a room with only one bed and the hotel may be unable, or unwilling, to accommodate your request for a room with 2 beds (or they could charge extra for such a room)

If this uncertainty won't work for your plans then HOTWIRE may be an option as you'll be able to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure that there are sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search. Usually this means two beds, but it could be one bed plus a sofabed, rollaway, etc. The trade-off is that PRICELINE is usually a little cheaper than HOTWIRE, but HOTWIRE ensures accommodations for everyone you need as well as gives you the opportunity to take an educated guess as to the property being offered before your purchased based upon the amenities shown.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed, as well as the actual dates of your stay, desired star rating, maximum budget per nite, etc. and we'll advise accordingly.

Thank you for merging the threads, and the advise on quad occupancy. I think I'll stick with PRICELINE and when I win a hotel, I'll call and ask. If it's a problem, I'll get another room for the parents.

We are staying October 6-9 (3 nights), and I want the Waikiki Beach area. I bid $102 yesterday on "resort" in this area and was turned down. It was suggested that I bid $20 more or change something. Then I was looking at the "resorts" versus the only 4* (Westin Moana Surfrider), and decided the Westin looks pretty nice, so I bid $87 on the 4* last night, and it was denied. I looked through all the Oahu threads last night and didn't see anyone win Westin. The only 4* I saw won in the area was the Hyatt - so I wasn't sure what to expect on price. Any idea?

When reading the reviews on the resort options, Sheraton looks nice, but the others are mixed. Any idea if the 4* option (Westin) is similar or better than the resorts? I know how this works - I'm flexible, and will be happy with any of these hotels. I'm just trying to be strategic and get one I will like the most. Thank you!

The hotel class you select is the minimum that you are willing to accept... so there was a good chance that the 4* bid you made, and counter-offered for $20 more, was actually for a Resort hotel (and your 4* bid would have been upgraded to a Resort property) I say a 'good' chance simply given the price points of the Resort hotels and how infrequently we see 4* hotels won in this area.

Are you familair with re-bidding and using your re-bid zones? (see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained) At the 4* and Resort levels you have FIVE re-bid zones. Given your counter-offer when bidding for the Resort, you know the 'right' price for a 4* is somewhere between $88 and $122 (and for a Resort the right price is between $103 and $122)... so you can easily use your re-bid zones to gradually increase your bids, all in the next round of bidding, and (likely) be successful at $122 or less. If you're willing to bid this high it's just a question of whether you want to try for a Resort or a slightly lower priced 4* (with the possibility of your 4* hotel being upgraded to a Resort class property anyway)

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

PS- if you're not familiar with re-bidding it's highly recommended that you ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before bidding. (NOTE: Ihilani and North Shore are NOT re-bid zones at the 4* level (nor at the resort level either))

Thanks - Nice "trick" with the different zones/locations. I just bid $119 "resort" at waikiki beach and won the Hyatt. :) I was hoping for the Sheraton, but was expecting the Hyatt - that looks like the most frequent "winner" in this location and rating. Looks like a decent place. Thanks for all your help!

Congratulations on your success!

While not your first choice in the area, at least you had an idea of what to expect, and i'm sure for the price you can make this work well for your plans.

Glad to hear the tips on the board were helpful with your purchase.

Thank you for sharing your win with the board.
