Priceline Hotel: Resort Oahu (Waikiki Beach) Sheraton Waikiki

Hi, I just recently found this forum and the information on this board is fantastic.

I bid on 4* Waikiki Beach and was given the Sheraton Waikiki Beach for $119. I am thrilled with the price, and I do understand that at this price, this is for City View room. I called the hotel to see if it was possible to 'upgrade' to an ocean view room, and was told that it was possible but the cost of the cheapest ocean view was $290/night, so basically I would have to pay the $170/night different.

I was wondering if anyone was ever upgraded for free at check-in or offered a 'reasonable' price difference to upgrade? As I said before, I have no complaints about the city view and knew that I was looking to get the best price possible, but just wondered if others have had good experience or if there are any 'tips' for checking in.

Thanks in advance, and I will be sure to use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on this website for my future travel needs.

Great site!!!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Congratulations on your success and than you for sharing your results with the board.

Upgrades do happen, but there really isn't any 'trick' to it as it's the most important factor is occupancy levels at the hotel, which are out of your control It is recommend to be personable and friendly to the check-in clerk (which you should be anyway) and ask if there are any ugprades avaialble.

At check-in if you're once again offered the upgrade rate of $170/nite, i would counter-offer between the current difference between a City View room (which you currently are assigned) and the Oceanview room you want. This seems like a more win-win for both you and the hotel... you already have the 'value' of a city view room (regardless of what you paid), so to upgrade to the next level should be the rate (value) of the Oceanview less the value of the City View.

I stayed at this hotel Jan 31-Feb 3 last year on a Hotwire purchase for $120/night. We were upgraded to an oceanview room on the Diamondhead side. I don't think we could have got a better room unless it was a suite. As Thereuare suggested a polite request worked wonders and certainly it did no harm to ask. I am sure occupancy levels are the key. I think this is a great hotel and would stay there again. It has a great location and the new pool is awesome. I gather there is a second new pool that is finished now and I would love to check that out...
