groovyhoovy
Bid on 01/26/10 White House/Downtown area for 4* at $50, 3.5* at $55, 3.0* at $60 and all rejected. Added Convention Center and bid 4* $60, 3.5* $60 and 3.0* $60 and all turned down. Went back in and started new bid with Downtown Convention center + Dupont Circle for 4.0* at $70 and rejected, then 3.5* at $70 and rejected again. Then added 3.0* to this bid at $75 and got L'enfant Plaza Hotel. Taxes and fees from priceline were $29.56, Hotel was booked for 08/27/10-08/29/10 originally and then we added two days later to extend our check out date to 08/31/10. The taxes and fees shown here are for the 4 days. Valet parking at this hotel is $33.60/night, but we are going to park at the Reagan International Airport and ride the Metrorail to our hotel, which is only four stops away. The parking at Reagan International is only $12/day in the extended stay parking lot. You can buy a Metrorail unlimited pass for 7 consecutive days for $39/pass. This is our plan for getting around in DC. Link to comment

manypims
For future reference, you broke two of the cardinal rules of Priceline: 1) you started your bidding way too soon and 2) you lowered your star rating and increased your price. The board moderators will give you the link, but I'd suggest studying the tricks of the trade. I stay in DC fairly often and routinely pay around $60 for four star properties. And that's during the week. On weekends, you can find even better deals. The key is to start low and wait until the last month or better yet, last week. If that's too bold for you, you can always reserve your room now, and then cancel it once you win via Priceline. Link to comment
