I'm not worrying as much about being cheap on this trip. I want something nice for my birthday.

I'd like to use Priceline and Hotwire to get a good value on a centrally located hotel.

I've deduced what hotwire is offering using betterbidding.com.

South Beach

This hotel 3* South Beach $90 plus tax :Richmond Hotel http://www.richmondhotel.com/ (this place has bad reviews and is boutique)

3.5* $123 plus tax per night http://www.doubletree.com/en/dt/hotels/ind...ctyhocn=MIAOFDT (mixed reviews but higher chance of getting two double beds, though appears to be sold out during our dates, so it could be a different hotel)

Miami Beach

3.5 Stars. 128 per night Clarion Claridge hotel (which i have to say is gorgeous and good reviews) http://www.claridgefl.com/

Recommended on Flyertalk :

http://www.rubellhotels.com/albion.html $145 a night, non priceline booked , I actually called them and could confirm 2 double beds.

Review: http://www.gayot.com/newhotels/MiamiSouthF...?tag=MIHOT03564

http://www.clintonsouthbeach.com/discover.htm , $203 per night, 2 Queen Beds, according to FT close to the clubs. Lots of great reviews.

So It seems like a good strategy might be to start with $80 or so for a three star and go that way.

(ps i like on betterbidding how you can be a bit more conversational on your posts..)

Welcome to BetterBidding!... we're glad you're here.

Since price is less important to you than 'niceness', do you have any preference of South Beach vs. Miami Beach? Is this preference more important than price? Any maximum bid in mind?

There are plenty of re-bids available in this zone, and given that you're 'ok' with two zones, we can use that our advantage in the strategy that is suggested. Let us know about the above questions and we'll get started on working out a plan of action for you.

well I think $100-120 is probably the max bid since for $145 i can get the albion which has 2 double beds and we know would work out fine.

I think South Beach is definitely preferably as we will want to go to the gay clubs and such and be as close as possible.

My friend i'm going with can priceline as well, so we have a backup bidder!

At the Resort level you have 9 re-bids available, at the 4* level you have 5 re-bids available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding it is discussed in detail here: PRICELINE BIDDING EXPLAINED. Feel free to ask any questions you have or confirm your re-bid zones if you are unsure.

This is how i would proceed:

Select Resort and South Beach...

Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $120.

If rejected close that browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* and South Beach...

Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $120.

If rejected close that browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously.

Select Resort and Miami Beach...

Select 4* and Miami Beach...

Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $90.

If rejected close that browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* and Miami Beach and South Beach...

Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $120.

The above exhausts all of your South Beach possibilities before moving on to trying Miami Beach. It then bids lower for 4* Miami beach since that this the least desirable of your scenarios... but if it still fails it then adds the South Beach zone to the Miami Beach zones in order to gain additional bids :)

Any questions feel free to ask. Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

I didn't do this right at all. I should have clarified on rebidding. I didn't start with a Resort because quite honestly I didn't like any of the locations and they all seem to be off the beaten path a bit (maybe i'm wrong).

So knowing this is a holiday weekend I started a little bit higher.

I checked 4* South Beach at 85, then added Dade 95, then N Miami 100, then Miami Lakes, 105, then southwest miami for 110 and was rejected on all bids.

Seems to me that is pretty telling that no four star is going to be available in that price range.

On hotwire there is a 3.5 star with "Selected amenities include: Boutique Hotel, Near Beach, Airport Shuttle, Restaurant(s), Complimentary Breakfast, High-Speed Internet Access, Tennis"

or we may just stay at the Joshua House which is a gay and lesbian B and B which is more expensive but is recommendd.

Open to thoughts whether I have anymore rebids open on priceline.

You do have one re-bid zone available... and now you can use it strategically to get 5 re-bids!!

Follow this 'exercise' from elsewhere on the board and we'll teach you how to find the last re-bid zone... we'll then suggest how to bid in order to get 5 additional bids (you should also give us your maximum bid):

If you have made it to this point in the thread and still don't understand re-bidding, add a post/reply in the appropriate state/country category you are bidding and list every sub-zone in the region you're bidding along with the highest rated hotel offered in that zone.  You can figure out the highest star rating in each zone as follows:
The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a Priceline page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time.
