Priceline Hotel: 3.5* NYC (MTE) Roosevelt

Love the site, have never used PRICELINE before, but this site makes it look like it's the best find ever!!

So my question is this:

I'll be in NYC from Nov 4-8/9 (depending on hotel price). I've been once before and stayed in the Sheraton on 7th, and loved the location as it seemed to be within walking distance of pretty much everything! Sadly that was when my parents were there and I was able to sleep for free! I'm now going again by myself (29yo female) and was thinking of staying in a similar area.

SO, would say $150-$175USD a night be too little to pay for a 3.5* or 4* for the time listed in the area of either Midtown West, Midtown East or Times Square.

I've read the posts about re-bidding but it seems a little confusing so not sure if I want to try this.

I'm after safety, convenience, and something that's a little nice as well!

Thanks!

I think you have a 'good' chance at a 3.5* for $175 bid or less, but i would first suggest you take some time to re-consider using re-bid zones in your bidding strategy as it really is vital to helping land the best price.

Do you understand the concept that if:

ZoneA: highest hotel is rated 4*

ZoneB: highest hotel is rated 2*

If you bid fir a 4* hotel in either ZoneA or ZoneB, and you're successful, your hotel has to be in ZoneA since ZoneB does not have any hotels at the 4* level.

If the above makes sense then we can probably bring you up to speed regarding re-bidding; if not, let us know what doesn't make sense in the above scenario and/or ask questions and we'll try to break it down further.

I get that, if you don't win, you bid in add an area that doesn't have the hotel * you're requesting. I'm more worried about making a mistake and putting a bid in in a area that has say a 2 or 3* hotel and getting that in error in an area I don't want to be.

But I'm happy to give it a whirl I guess, if worst comes to worst I'll be in a area I've never been before!!

Thanks for the quick reply!

Well, we can confirm your re-bid zones before you bid, you'll know (if you don't already we'll teach you how) to determine your re-bid zones and check them each time before your start a bidding cycle, and make sure you proof-read very carefully the 'bid review' screen which shows all the parameters of the bid you are about to submit.

From Priceline Re-Bidding Explained, are you aware of how to determine your re-bid zones? If so, do you want to confirm them with the board? While a 4* hotel may be a bit of a stretch, did you want to try that first up to your limit, or did you want to start at the 3.5* level?

Also, since you mention MTE, MTW, and TS... is there a reason you're not including the CPS zone as well? Users typically find this area just as convenient at the others, but not sure if you have specific plans that would not make this convenient for your needs.

I've had a look and CPS seems fine as well, it's a little further North than I wanted, but hey it'll make me walk more!

I think I will to start with the 4*, it can't hurt can it and I may be lucky. The only thing is that I'm looking at 6 nights, the 4-9 of November. I'd prefer to try and stay in the same place, but willing if I don't get something to try and split the bid into 2, 3 night stays.

So in summary, looking at MTE, MTW, TS & CPS, 3.5* or above. The most I'd like to spend is $175 a night, but that's the top end of the budget. So would like to start around the $110 mark and work myself up. I've read a few people have had success in the TS area with a 4* at $122 a night, which is amazing, so aiming (wishing, dreaming? hoping!) for something like this!!

Happy to start bidding over the weekend....

Actually your first step is to try for a 4* hotel in these zones, correct? (we'll cover 3.5* bidding if 4* should fail, as there are different aspects to consider)

This would be a 5 nite stay, is your check-out actually Nov 10?

I ended up with The Roosevelt Hotel New York at $150 a night for all 6 nights. I did stop bidding on the 4* at that price and went back to $120 for the 3.5* to try and save money! The reviews are very mixed but I'm really happy with the price and general area.

Thanks so much for the help.

Congratulations on your success!

Glad to see you received the same hotel for your complete stay and at a nice rate for this time of year.

Hope you're happy with the results and this works well for your plans.

I often recommend users in this area try Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) for breakfast one morning... one of the best bagles in the city and makes for a relatively inexpensive breakfast among locals.
