called hotel to request 2-beds room as now 3-4 of us staying.

they said I needed to upgrade to deluxe: cost $20/night extra for the room, but no extra cost if 4 people.

still a good deal :)

As you point out, even for an extra $20 it's a very nice deal, especially since getting an upgraded room and not just the same room with 2 beds.

Do you remember what they wanted to charge?

This is what I fear about priceline - unknown charges. In this case it was optional but some can ding you an extra $30/nt for parking etc. and you have no choice but to pay.

buyer beware- but you have know way of checking ahead of time if you don't know which hotel. grrr
