I tried to find a car rental bidding advice page which would give me pointers on how to structure my bids but couldn't find a sticky or FAQ.

Can someone provide advice on how best to bid for a car rental for pickup on 7/29 and drop off on 7/31?

Pickup Location:

SFO, SF downtown, or San Jose (anywhere in SJ. Does not have to be SJC)

Pickup Date and Time:

7/29 - Any time before 5pm

Drop Off Location:

SFO

Drop off Date and Time:

7/31 - Before 11:30 am

I'm bidding on an economy vehicle. I tried $20 per day but was rejected.

The best rate I've found through conventional means is about 65-70 dollars a day.

You really don't have much time to lowball, imo.

I'd first book something as a back-up, then make the following bids every 24 hours:

$30, $40, $45, $50, $55
