jacqueusi
OK, I figured out the whole Zones thing. Just like the instructions say, go to the Priceline site, I clicked on each zone individually and noted which ones were did not have 4* hotels, in combination with the Loop hotels:O'Hare South - Tried $63, rejectedMidway - Tried $67, rejectedLincoln Park - Tried $70, rejectedSkokie - Did not try yet. Was hoping for some feedback on what I should bid before trying.I can't help but think if bid again at $62 it would work. Maybe if I waited 24-hours?Very curious. Will continue to use the betterbidding PRICELINE link and will continue to post results. Link to comment
jacqueusi
Tried again:07/31 to 08/02, 3 rooms:Chicago Loop - Tried $63, rejectedO'Hare South - Tried $83, rejectedMidway - Tried $89, rejectedLincoln Park - Tried $92, rejectedWill try again in the AM. Link to comment
AaronJB
I'm seeing a 3.5* Suite property in the Mag Mile/Streeterville area with Suite, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Complimentary Breakfast, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, Business for $134 for 7/31-8/2.Just a thought - you could do 2 rooms here instead of 3 rooms elsewhere. While this wouldn't be in the Loop, it's towards the South end of the Mag Mile area and really wouldn't be very far from the Loop at all. Plus, larger rooms, free breakfast and manager's reception. Please use the site's HOTWIRE link if this idea is of interest. Link to comment
thereuare
AaronJB, is the HOTWIRE hotel you're refering to above the Embassy Suites Chicago Downtown Lakefront ? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
jacqueusi
Today:07/31 to 08/02, 2 rooms:Chicago Loop - Tried $82, rejectedO'Hare South - Tried $92, rejectedMidway - Tried $98, rejectedWill give this a bit more thought. I'd like to keep the group together, but maybe a 3 1/2*? Link to comment
AaronJB
Yes, it would be a match for the ES Lakefront. Link to comment
jacqueusi
There is also a 4* on HOTWIRE for $115 last I checked in the Loop area. I'm not certain it's Palmer House though. Link to comment

jacqueusi
I don't believe this is the same hotel I was referring to the other day, but the price is the same, $115.Boutique, Fitness, Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-Speed Internet.I also followed up on my Priceline bids.Loop $99 - RejectedO'Hare Airport South $102 - RejectedMidway $106 - RejectedLicoln Park $109 - Rejected Link to comment

jacqueusi
You snooze, you lose. In my defense, had a tremendous # of things to take care of the past few days.Today:07/31 to 08/02, 2 rooms:Chicago Loop - Tried $94, rejectedO'Hare South - Tried $110, rejectedMidway - Tried $120, rejectedSkokie - Tried $125, rejectedAll out of free bids for the day. HOTWIRE backup is now up to $135/night. I would have done with the botique hotel, but trying to keep family together. Link to comment
AaronJB
The Allegro is $138.75 on Orbitz per room/per night for these dates regular rate, plus coupon code SUMMERVIN takes 15% off that price (although the coupon may require purchase w/a Visa.)Still, if the 15% worked, that would put you under what you've bid, plus free wine reception at night for the adults. Additionally, that hotel was renovated within the past year or so.Please use the site's Orbitz.com link if this idea is of interest. Link to comment
jacqueusi
Expensive lesson learned. I tried the Orbitz link within 24 hours of posting, but Allegro was no longer available.Priceline, I bid up to $150 for three rooms, with tax it was going to be around $170/night. Bid was rejected. I was going to go higher, but with the Orbitz coupon (Thank You!), I reserved rooms at my hotel of choice (Palmer House). Granted, not $62/night but the premium over the other alternatives was not that much. What I had learned/forgot about. I should have locked the rooms in on Orbitz, and then cancelled if I won the Priceline bids. I've been using Hotwire and Priceline for so long now, I forgot all about having the option to cancel reservations when using Orbitz. You win some, you lose some.Thank you BetterBidding! AaronJB
As I mentioned to another poster who won this hotel, the Corner Bakery that is essentially located in the NE corner of the building (go out the front Monroe entrance, then walk East to the corner of Monroe/Wabash) is a good, quick nearby breakfast/lunch/dinner choice.
