koya
Hi all,I'm new to the forum and upstart I'd like to say thanks for the great info and introduction to Priceline provided by you.My girlfriend and I will be in the States on vacation are looking for a hotel in NYC, definitely in Manhattan, and preferably somewhere central. Based on what I've read in the "Tips" section I'd be looking at Chelsea, CPS, ESB, MTE, MSG, MTW, TS and UWS as possible zones..Arrival and departure are 8/31/09 and 9/11/09, respectively. My maximum bid would be somewhere around $100.-/night (excluding taxes), and I'm looking for a 3-3.5* hotel (or above).Any bidding tips/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!Best, koya Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding!I think it's likely that you're going to have to raise your maximum bid somewhat, but if you want to give it a try with a $100 limit, did you want to try up to your limit first for a 3.5* hotel and then, if rejected, try for a 3* property... OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better hotel for this stay? Also, i wouldn't include UWS in your initial bidding as generally speaking that location is not as centrally located as the others.Let us know regarding the 3* vs. 3.5* and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. koya
Thanks for the reply!3* would be absolutely fine, but I wouldn't say no to 3.5* or above if there's a chance to get one with a $100 or max. $110 bid. Thanks for your tip, I'll omit UWS, and is the Chelsea zone alright?Best, koya Link to comment
thereuare
Yes, Chelsea is fine... it may be a short walk to the subway (10 minutes) if you end up on the most western part of the zone, but at the maximum bid you're setting, i'd take it if that's where you ended up.So to clarify, you want to first for a 3.5* hotel with a $110 maximum? If that's correct, at the 3.5* level you have THREE re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* CPS, MTE, and MTW...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MSG, Chelsea TS, and ESB...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* CPS, MTE, MTW, MSG, Chelsea TS, and ESB...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. koya
Big thanks your help! I've gone through the "Priceline Re-Bidding Explained" Thread, and I think I get the hang of it.One question though: Since my three free rebid zones at 3.5* are UES, LIC and Chelsea, in my second bidding series (MSG, Chelsea, ESB) wouldn't I choose TS instead of Chelsea (i.e. MSG, TS, ESB)?Another questions: For me to bid on (CPS, MTE, MTW) and (MSG, TS, ESB) independently, will I need to wait 24 hours or is it possible to "uncheck" the former and add the latter zones in the same bid? Thanks again for your terrific help,Best, koya Link to comment

thereuare
How you proceed from here depends if you favor location vs. higher star rating. If you prefer a 3.5* property you can add DSF or UWS to your previous bidding cycle and give that a try.If you want to re-try at the 3* level you have to do things a little differently, as you'll be adding Chelsea to the mix, and you have NO re-bid zones. However, you can proceed as follows:Select 3* CPS, MTE, MTW...Bid $70, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MSG, TS, ESB, and Chelsea...Bid $70, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MSG, MTE, MTW...Bid $75, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS, TS, ESB, and Chelsea...Bid $75, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS, TS, MTW...Bid $80, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MSG, MTE, ESB, and Chelsea...Bid $80, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS, MTE, Chelsea...Bid $85, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MSG, TS, ESB, and MTW...Bid $85, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS, MTE, MTW, MSG, and ESB...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS, MTE, MTW, MSG, and Chelsea...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS, MTE, MTW, MSG, and TS...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* ESB, Chelsea, CPS, MTE, MTW, and MSG...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* ESB, Chelsea, CPS, MTE, MTW, and TS...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect CPS, MTE, MTW, MSG, TS, ESB, and ChelseaBid $100Any questionls feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. thereuare
FYI, since you'd be lowering your star rating, you don't need to wait 24 hours from your previous bids... you can bid again immediately if you'd like. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. aladyncal
:) success!Wyndham Garden Hotel Manhattan (Chelsea) confirmed from August 31st through September 11th 2009 a $110.- a night.I would say this supports 'bidding in advance'! I can see, at this point, that I would only get a 2* hotel from PL for my Sept dates (9-12) for about $145+tax per night :) Link to comment
