For our parents Saturday stay, my husband called to confirm their reservation and to request a king size non-smoking room. The receptionist told my husband she cannot reserve a room and that he should make his request when he checked in. We arrived at the hotel around 9:00 PM. I guess when checking in my husband did not ask for a non smoking room. The room that my in-laws assigned to was the worst smelling room I have ever seen. When I entered the room the smell of cigarette smoke hit me. When we tried to change the room, the receptionist told us that there were no rooms left, and Priceline did not guarantee a non-smoking room. I was devastated as I "was" the one who bid online to get this room. :)

Next day I called Priceline and complained to the customer service representative about the smoking room. I learned that it was true that Priceline indeed did not guarantee a non-smoking room. The representative called the hotel and learned that my in-laws stayed in the room the night before, and because of that Priceline could not do anything. When I inquired about our stay that night, she put me on hold to connect to the travel specialists. I hung up after waiting for a couple minutes, but when I come home and checked my email I noticed that I received an email from Priceline travel specialists.

Around 10 AM my mother-in-law called and informed us that they checked into a very nice room looking to the Elizabeth River on the 9th floor. :) After suffering for one night they were happy with their new room. The room had a nice Sweet Sleeper Bed, nice size TV (although my father-in-law told that the TV in their first room on the ground floor had a bigger size TV), hair dryer, coffee machine, and a nice bathroom. From their little balcony they watched the small ferries and boats go by, as well as, the opposite coast, Portsmouth.

We had a similar room on the 9th floor, and the view was beautiful both day and night. The sweet sleeper bed was one of the best beds I slept on. The soft linens touched my skin softly, and the pillows were so comfortable. The bathroom had soaps, shampoo, conditioner and a mouthwash. Later, while taking a cruise I learned that the hotel had a $10 million renovation recently.

We ate breakfast at the restaurant that looked to the harbor. The portions were too big for me, and I had an indigestion problem later on. However, my in-laws and my husband liked the restaurant a lot. There is a valet parking in front of the hotel. For self-parking for $11 a day the Sheraton hotel has an aggrement with the Dominion Tower parking lot, adjacent to the hotel.

I just returned from a 4-night stay at the Sheraton Waterside, and was pleasantly surprised. The location truly was waterfront (unlike that of the similarly-titled Marriott) and the interior was very nice. Perhaps it was recently renovated? The hotel staff were all very friendly, and we were even given a complimentary upgrade to a room with a water view on the 9th floor (I did have to ask if they had any available). The stay would have been perfect had it not been for the extremely thin walls/door in the room, through which we could plainly hear ALL sounds in the hallway. That said, I would recommend the hotel and will personally stay there again, but I will be sure to bring a portable fan with me to create some sort of white noise in the room (the air conditioning system was incredibly quiet, and there wasn't even an exhaust fan in the bathroom).

Location-wise, the hotel was great. The Nauticus museum and the USS Wisconsin battleship were practically next door, as was a shopping center with several (chain) restaurants. The main mall with a movie theater was only a few blocks away, and everything was walkable.

Overall, :) !

I have stayed at this hotel a few of times. I do not consider it as nice as the Marriott across the street. Bedding and TV were nice, as well as shower. The lobby and hotel look tired and in need of updating. One of the tough parts for all the hotels downtown is parking. Over $20 for valet parking...(makes other places a better buy) a bit less, but a long haul, to park yourself. One trick at the Sheraton. Just across Waterside Drive is a loading zone parking area (about 7 spaces) where you can park for free from 6pm-9am. If you can go in and out in these times it is a good saving. Still have to walk across the street, but not as far as the parking deck where you would park.
