New to the board...appreciate what you guys are doing! My wife and I are going to Chicago 06/26-06/29 to celebrate our anniversary. We're flying in and taking the train to the city (not renting a car).

4* Chicago Loop...fitness, pool, restaurant, bus. center, hi-speed...$82

4* NMA-WT-GC...fitness, restaurant, bus. center, hi-speed...$105

4* MM-Streeterville...non-smoking, fitness, rest., bus. center, hi-speed...$105

4.5* MM-Streeterville...fitness, rest., bus. center, hi-speed...$119

Any thoughts/ideas on what we're considering? We're also open to any other suggestions about the other hotels that are popping up. Thanks!

The 4.5* Mag Mile would likely be the Intercontinental, and would be the best out of the choices you mention. However, I'd also like to suggest the 3.5* in the NMA-WT-GC area with the amenities Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Golf, Tennis, Spa. While a lower star rating, this would likely be the Indigo Hotel, which is a cute and colorful boutique property in the Gold Coast neighborhood.

The Loop $82 is likely the Palmer. While not a bad hotel, not what I would call romantic.

(Turns out, we're staying at the Palmer for business for one night before what we booked through Hotwire.) As you predicted, it is the Palmer House. By the way, booked through HOTWIRE with your link. Congratulations on your success!

Glad to see you received the hotel you were hoping for and that this works well with your previous reservation for the nite before at this same property.

When you check-in let them know that you have a separate, but continuous, reservation for the remaining nites and ask that they "block the room" so that there should be no need/chance of having to change rooms during your stay, although you may still have to go to the front desk on 'switch' day and have them officially check you out and then back in again.

While it's not exactly the way it used to be (in that I think it's run by different management and may have different hours than it used to), the Berghoff Restaurant (which is a couple West of the hotel on Adams (theberghoff.com) is a great choice.
