Really want to stay at the 3.5* Hyatt Fishermans Wharf. But was ready to accept the 3.5* Sheraton Fishermans Wharf. Looking through previous posts lots of people getting the Hyatt for $65 for similar travel dates as mine.

My offer was rejected at $65 and $69. I will keep trying

Welcome to the site. :)

I haven't looked at what other people have gotten, but if people are getting the hotel for some of the same dates as yours (for example, if someone got the Hyatt for 5/29-6/2 and you are looking for 5/28-6/1) then that does not necessarily mean that the Hyatt is available on your dates, as it may be available on 5/29-6/1, but not 5/28.

I think you are bidding correctly, but I wouldn't count on a particular hotel. Since you have a good deal of time, I would only bump up your bids slightly - $69, $72, $75 and wouldn't go too high.

To offer up another idea, Orbitz.com has the Serrano Hotel (a Kimpton property, so you'd get the free wine social hour) for 30% off - $95.41.

If you use the coupon code FABSAVE10, you get 10% off = $85.87.

If this is of interest, please use the site's Orbitz.com link to start your purchase. For bidding, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the site's PRICELINE link to start your purchase. The site also has a HOTWIRE link, if you decide to go that route.

I almost booked Serrano Hotel last week. It looks like a really nice hotel but after reading a few trip advisor comments, several people mentioned the area wasn't safe at night. Even one of the managers' responses said "we make up for bad location with great customer service". The manager admitting its a bad area has really put me off.

I appreciate you taking the time to help though.

Hi Trig - You can give yourself some leeway in your bidding if you learn about free rebids. It's in the FAQ's, and instead of only having 1 or 2 bids for FW, you can 5. You can start low and go higher in whatever increments you want. You can probably do better than that $119 HW price. Check out some of Thereuare's bidding strategies, or my bidding history for my recent Club Quarters win for examples.

As to the Serrano being in a sketchy neighborhood - don't know if you've ever been to SF, but that's the way it is. The Tenderloin is right next to Nob Hill and Union Square. The TenderKnob is right on the border. Civic Center is near the Castro and Van Ness is close to lower Pacific Heights. If you don't want to stay in an area, by all means, don't. But stay aware and you'll be fine. (I used to be scared of Oakland, and then ended up living there. Who knew!)

Cheers for the info I'll check it out. I am aware of adding extra locations to my search which gives me 3 bids per 24 hours.

I've only been to San Francisco for 24 hours. I did do a lot in that time but I can't say I know the area very well. I do remember taking the cable cart from Fishermans Wharf and ended up on the street with all the shops (Market Street?). I walked down market street heading away from the bay bridge and I soon found myself in an area where I felt uncomfortable and it was the middle of the day. Walking back to the train station at 9:30pm was also interesting. Gallus50, What is your opinion on Fishermans Wharf at night time? I was looking for a lively area day and night, where there are lots of things to do, places to eat, bars, music etc...

Thanks

I don't blame you for feeling uncomfortable on that stretch of Market Street. I do, too. It's somewhere between Mason and Van Ness and it gets pretty seedy. A few blocks past Van Ness, it turns into the Castro and it's nicer.

Fisherman's Wharf is pretty lively at night. I haven't hung out there a lot, but there are plenty of restaurants and some fun bars, especially heading towards North Beach, which is very lively at night. There are a few strip clubs up there, too, but you can avoid those easily. SOMA is also lively at night - there's a club area that really rocks - but it can also veer towards sketchy , so I wouldn't recommend it. It can also be noisy.

Lots of neighborhoods have good nightlife, you could go explore them, too. Pacific Heights, Union Street, The Haight, Mission, etc. The Muni runs everywhere. There aren't many hotels there, though.

Hope this was helpful. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board when you bid. Thanks.

Successful bid of $85 for Hyatt Fishermans Wharf.

Spent several days bidding between $65 and $75 using free bids. Decided it wasn't working, so today I bid $65, $75, $80, and then $85 and won. Still feel I've got a greate deal. Hotwire wanted $119 and hyatt website wanted $156. I also used the zip code '99999' to supply my non-US address which worked.

Thanks
