Hello all,

First time posting on here but I have been watching the boards for the last month or so. Definatly a big help and thanks for all you guys do!

Just a quick question, my little brother is turning 21 on the 26th of March so we (the fam) are headed to Vegas to stay the 27th, 28th and leave on the 29th (we would like to stay somewhere on the strip). I have taken shots in the dark up to $50 for a 4* hotel and $70 for a 5* on priceline. I think these are a little low. Any help or advice I could get would be greatly appreciated. We are shooting for two rooms as there is going to be 4 or 5 of us.

Thanks!

Have you checked the link above-- the one that says Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins? Check dates around the time you're planning your vacation and that might give you a general idea of what hotels in those star categories are going for. Also read through this thread and see what others have won. It will be helpful too to read the thread that gives the hotel list for Vegas so you can see what hotels are in which star category.

With PRICELINE there is no way to ensure that you will receive a hotel on the strip as there are hotels in the strip zone which are actually slightly off the strip. Is this acceptable OR would you like to explore other options which are more likely to land you something directly on the strip?

Let us know and we'll advise accordingly.

At the 4*level the Westin is a 'known' hotel located slightly off the strip while the Trump is a similar example at the 5* level (also note the Trump doesn't have a casino, don't know if this is important to you or not)

Also, when will the number of occupants be finalized?? Are you comfortable booking for double occupancy if there may actually be three people in at least one of the rooms (since there may be 5 of your and only two rooms)

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

So to move forward, do you want to try for a 5* first or a lower priced 4*? What is your maximum bid at each star level?

Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Well I was thinking like 80-90 range for a 5* and 50-60 for a 4*. Do you think that is reasonable and might have a chance of getting accepted?

A couple of days ago I had put in $70 for a 5 star on the North Strip and it countered with a $155. Is this a busy weekend or does it usually counter high?

Thanks again

Based upon current prices these rates sound low to me... the prices you are seeking have only recently been available during the absolute slowest times (of an already slow market), but your dates include March Madness Basketball which (historically) has been a pretty big deal in Vegas.

  • 2 weeks later...

Still haven't booked anything yet, I think I am going to wait until it gets a little closer and use HOTWIRE. The parents really want to stay on the stip and some where that has a casino. So the Trump kind of kills us there and they weren't to impressed with the Westin. Any of the other hotels would have been great but with those two in the mix it kind of shoots me down for using priceline. Thanks for the help and I will post once I do make the reservation.

Thanks for all the help, the other travlers were pressuring me to get this thing booked so I went ahead and did. I ended up going through HOTWIRE and got 2 rooms at Treasure Island. First room was $103 a night and Second room was $109 a night. Ended up booking seperate as the deal wouldn't show up when I put in two rooms. I don't know how to add my wins to the calendar so if you want to give me instructions I will do it.

Thanks again

Ryan
