Actually you get quite a good bang for your buck on the strip right now since there has been such an economic downturn. so no sense NOT staying there. Besides if you plan to do anything on the strip, it makes things a lot easier. The times I've gone before, traffic has been a bear and taxis are expensive, so weigh the time and money saved by staying on the strip and being able to walk or take the monorail with any price savings of being off strip.
