Priceline Hotel: 5* Las Vegas (Strip North) Wynn

Since things are on a down-turn everywhere, and I love Phantom of the Opera, thought I'd think about going to Vegas for the dates of 2/6 through 2/8. Staying at the Venetian would be super wonderful, if that is possible. So I'd appreciate any hints! Re: HOTWIRE, what appears to be the Wynn is now going for $143. I've read reviews on Tripadvisor, and people haven't been all that pleased there of late, so I thought maybe PRICELINE was my better bet? Any thoughts?

I will be sure to use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links from this site.

My first preference is to be right on the strip, but of course I wouldn't sneeze at Trump if that was my best bet. So you don't think Venetian is do-able for under $200? I think I'd rather stay at the 4.5* Bellagio (presumably for less lol) than pay that much.

I did read comments about trying consolidators, etc, but I'm leery of trying that.

I didn't say that...

The point is that while you may get the Venetian for under $200, you may also get another hotel, such as the Trump, so if you continue to bid up towards $200 and received a property other than the Venetian, would you still be happy with that purchase?

If you want the Venetian i would try to get it thru HOTWIRE and pay the $203/nite for it, if you're open to any 5* i would go the PRICELINE route, but i suspect that there is a good chance that you'll win the Wynn in the low $100's. (and the Venetian, or the Bellagio, isn't worth the extra $75/nite or so it would likely cost you to stay at either, imo)

Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. (or our link to Bellagio if you decide to go that route)

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

Thanks, Number One (lol just had to say that once since i saw you were the #1 board member lol- star trek reference :) )

I can always go another date.. it would have to be March, but don't know when would be good and would miss spring break and/or conventions. I'd also have to go Fri-Sat-Sun. What do you think?

If I try HOTWIRE, I think I'm getting the Wynn, not Venetian, with that link. If you read tripadvisor, there have been some unhappy people who've stayed at the Wynn lately.

Well I decided to chance Priceline and hoped I wouldn't get the Wynn based on the reviews I've read on trip advisor. I did use the link from here to PRICELINE.

$80 Strip North Rejected.

$90 add LV Airport area, rejected.

$95 add Summerlin, rejected.

$100 add LV Convention Center, rejected.

$110 accepted. Wynn. I guess I'll see how it goes. I probably should have just stopped and tried another date. Oh well.

You can continue to monitor the board (and our Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins) to see if/when the Venetian appears for weekend dates.

Unfortunately you can't "make" a hotel appear on HOTWIRE, and with PRICELINE it's a crapshoot as to which hotel you will likely receive. (which also includes the Trump International, which is slightly off-strip, doesn't have a casino, and is probably viewed as 'less desirable' than the Wynn, imo) I've never stayed at the Wynn, but i suspect those who are not happy with it are paying a fair amount more than $140/nite.

EDIT TO ADD: i typed the above before seeing your win (or should i say Wynn)... i think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the Wynn... for $110/nite it's an excellent deal for this property. Enjoy your stay and thanks for using our PRICELINE link

I went back and read the reviews again. The biggest complaint seemed to be overcharges on the credit card, so I'll watch my charges carefully. Otherwise, everyone seems to like the rooms, so, especially for the price, I think I got a good deal. I will be sure to come back and report on my experience, since I note that a lot of people seem to Wynn (I can do it too, Thereuare!) but no one who has purchased through Priceline seems to have given a review.

It's always great to see the support here, thanks so much!

Oh, and it hadn't dawned on me that the Venetian might not respond to bids for weekends. Good point!

Just a quick update... I'll give a more detailed review when I get back.

What can I say? The Wynn is great. Gave the young gal at the desk a $20 bill between my credit card and license, and got a panoramic room, one of the top floors, absolutely perfect strip view. We also can see the freebie show, Parasol Down, from our room as we are directly above it. It's very cool!

Food is great, and several places have actually quite reasonable food (comparatively). Le Reve at the Wynn and the Phantom at the Venetian are both amazing. I'm so glad I did both of them. Hint: with the economy slipping so badly, half-price shows are very easy to come by at Tix4tonite. Unfortunately I didn't find that out until too late, so I wanted to pass that on for everyone else. Valentine's might be different, but I'm guessing any other time will have tickets available. Both the Phantom and Le Reve had quite a lot of empty seats.

We noticed that the Venetian was much busier than the Wynn, both generally just walking around, and in the casino. The casino at the Wynn was really not busy at all... many of the gaming tablest were empty with the dealers just standing there. The shops at both the Wynn and Venetian were pretty much empty, particularly the higher end ones. Much different from my previous trips here!
