LDN-BOY
HiPlease can you advise me on my strategy for bidding for a hotel using Priceline. I realise its a mega busy weekend (Oct 28th - Nov 3rd) and i'm struggling to find a hotel in my price range. I would like to spend between $250 and $300 per night.I am flexible as long as its central, ie not in Brooklyn. In other posts i've seen the strategy of rebidding using the re-bid zones, is that advisable for this weekend?thanks,LDN-BOY Link to comment

LDN-BOY
Thanks for the welcome. In terms of where we stay we are not bothered, my thinking is that a 4* will be good in any area. As for splitting the bid rather not but as its a busy weekend, may consider it, just a little concerned about checking out 12:00 and not being able to check in before 14:00, do hotels let you leave bags post 9/11?Thanks.LDN-BOY Link to comment
thereuare
Most hotels will allow you to leave your luggage with them... either the first hotel will hold your bags after you check-out OR the second hotel will hold your bags until your room is ready. However, note that some hotels (i noticed at the NY Hilton) now charge for this service. If you want to first try for the entire stay at one property you can proceed as follows:At the 4 star level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Start with our link to PRICELINE.Select 4* MTE, MTW, and TS...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $175, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS, ESB, and Downtown...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $175, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, and CPS...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $200, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* ESB, TS, and Downtown...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $200, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, ESB and Downtown...Bid $205, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $220, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $225, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, ESB, Downtown and re-bid zone5...Bid $230, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $235, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $240, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $245, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $250, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, ESB and Downtown and re-bid zone6...Bid $255, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $260, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $265, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $270, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $275, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, ESB and Downtown and re-bid zone5 and re-bid zone6...Bid $280, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $285, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $290, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $295, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $300Any questions feel free to ask. I'm doubtful anything below $200 will be accepted, but included the above since it doesn't hurt to include if you have the time. If you'd rather not start so low you can start at the $205 level (which is still low for these dates but at least reasonable)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. LDN-BOY
thanks, again.i'm still a little confused....about the re-bid zones? so if i bid $140 for MTE MTW and TS, its rejected then i should bid $150 for a zone which doesn't have a 4* hotel, say Chelsea??Please help?!? should i use the priceline hotel list as a guide? LDN-BOY
Worked it out, found the zones with 3* and less and then numbered the zones 1-6.Alas.....i went up to $300 using the strategy above but no joy. Will try to split the nights...Thurs/Fri & Sat/Sun.Any more ideas?LDN-BOY Link to comment
thereuare
I wouldn't start by splitting the bid down the middle, you usually want to try to get as many nites as possible with your first purchase (as the fewer nights you need thereafter usually makes it a bit easier)I would try bidding the following date combinations:10/28-11/310/29-11/310/28-11/210/30-11/310/28-11/110/31-11/310/28-10/31Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Randi66
Just an FYI, this is the NY Marathon weekend. I had terrible luck bidding from 10/27-10/30. Granted, I only went up to 160.00, but I think you might have better luck in NJ. Happy Travelling, Randi Link to comment

thereuare
Congratulations on your win and thank you for sharing it with the board. The dates you've posted above are different than your original set of dates (starts 2 days later)... did you change your dates, make other plans for the first two nites, or still looking for a place to stay for those nites?Glad to hear the information on the board was helpful in your bidding. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay. LDN-BOY
:) oops actually had the dates incorrect, my dates in NYC are from the 10/30 - 11/03!!!Thanks again.Ps any idea when the hotel will get confirmation of the booking, as i'd like to just double check my booking has gone through?!?!I don't fancy walking the streets looking for somewhere!! thereuare
The hotel will have your confirmation already (it's almost instant after you have a bid accepted)... you can call them now to confirm they have you listed. It hasn't been mentioned for awhile, but it's also a good idea to take a copy of your confirmation/winning bid screen with you, it makes taking care fo any problems that arise easier when you have all the information in front of you.Have a great stay.
