Hotwire Hotel: Lake Tahoe - Embassy Suites

Based on this great website, I got an Embassy Suites room in Lake Tahoe for Aug. 19 for $82 + fees ($100 total). I am not sure of all the amenities listed but it was the only hotel with a "Suite" amenity coming up in Lake Tahoe. The Embassy Suite website has $147 + tax as their best price. Thus Hotwire provided a great deal.

When I went back five minutes later to try and get another room for my brother, Embassy Suites (or at least the amenities) did not come up. Is there any chance it will appear again for that night?

Was this in the SOUTH Lake Tahoe region?

You can view the amenities by clicking MY ACCOUNT on the top right corner of Hotwire's home page.

What was this hotel rated? (if you're not sure it too will be under the MY ACCOUNT link) On your subsequent search for your brother, did another hotel at that rating appear or was there none shown at that star level? If another appeared, what was the price?

I'll more accurately be able to answer your question with the above star rating info.

The amenities for the Embassy Suites in South Lake Tahoe were 4-stars,

Suite, Restaurant(s), Pool(s), Fitness Center, Complimentary Breakfast, Kitchenette, Golf Nearby, Tennis Nearby, Laundry Facilities (self-service)

In checking for that date now, a 4-star does come up for $130. However, it has a "Resort" and "Casino" amenity so I am sure it is not the ES which is on the California side.

Thanks again for you help!

When looking at Vacation Packages on Hotwire for Aug.18-20 in the Lake Tahoe area, Harrah's came up as a 4* Hotel with "Resort" & "Casino" icons. This is probably the one that you came up for Aug. 19. JUst keep checking Hotwire evry day, and hopefully, Embassy Suites will come up again. Good Luck.

The way Hotwire works is that they will show you the lowest price hotel in each zone at each star level. However, hotels whose prices are within a certain amout of each other (~$10) will be treated as 'equal' for presentation purposes and which one will be shown will be selected at random.

I can't say for certain but the price difference between the current 4* hotel and the ES seems to be just out of this range to be considered 'equivalent'. Therefore my guess is that the ES is no longer offering rooms at the price you were able to purchase it for.

A few things could happen between now and then:

-the ES makes add'l rooms available at the same price you paid, thus making it appear in the search results again

-if the current 4* and the ES are simply offering inventory 'close' in price to each other, once the 4* hotel pulls or sells their inventory i think the ES should appear once again

-if the ES is now priced somewhat higher than the current 4* property, once the current 4* property pulls or sells their inventory you may see the ES appear again, although at a somewhat higher rate than you originally paid

I would book a cancellable back-up, continue to watch Hotwire to see if the ES re-appears (try different computers/browsers too), and as a last resort about 7-10 days before check-in maybe give Priceline a try (with the knowledge that you may not get the ES, but at least try to beat the current back-up reservation)

Feel free to ask any questions you may have regarding the above.

I would clear your cookies and check hotwire everyday.I think it will come up again, whats the rate now for your dates?Try adding another night to your date and see if its a one night stay thats screwing up your chance.I checked everyday for my stay and it came up again.Don"t jump at a high rate, they usualy come back high the first day or two.

I just got back today and the place is nice but not as nice as the room I get when paying full price.I called a head and they took care of all my requests.Your going to love the location and your stay.

I have been watching a hotel on Hotwire in Seattle which has disappeared for a while and then shown up again to then disappear. It has been showing up again lately so I booked it last night and it turned out to be Embassy Suites and I was extremely pleased. I did look quite regularly though and it paid off in the end. Keep looking and be patient. BTW I got it for $65 and the cheapest on-line price was $163 - so there are bargains to be had out there.
