grram1
So far we're not faring as well as normal planning our annual summer trip. This is the first "win" we've ever had that we actually LOST money on. The AAA rate is only $143.10 ($5.90/night less) and is cancelable! Additionally the AAA rate is even less as they only charge taxes and no booking fees :) . Unfortunately I have no recourse as Hotwire doesn't officially compete w/AAA (or other rates not available to the general public). Even the Hotels.com rate was only $10 more at $159/night. For what it's worth the place seems fine... it's just kind of lame to come into an opaque, non-cancellable booking only to find you could have booked it direct for less. Over the past 6 years we've gotten spoiled with great savings... so far in 2 bookings this summer we haven't done so well... we may end up focusing on Priceline or just booking direct at this rate.Ocean Pointe Suites Key Largo Condos 500 Burton DriveTavernier, Florida 33070 (305) 853-3000Check-in dateMon, Jun 23, 2008Check-out dateThu, Jun 26, 20082 adults 2 childrenAmenities: Condo, Suite, Beachfront, 1-Bedroom Suite, Fully Equipped Kitchen, Complimentary Breakfast, Free Parking, In-room Laundry. grram1
We had quite an eventful stay... full of problems (not the least of which was that the sofa sleeper was broken and no concessions were offered despite having our kids on the reservation, and checking in with them at the front desk... they ended up sleeping on the floor w/mix-matched sheets and blankets that took 45 minutes, 3 calls, and an in-person visit to the front desk to secure.). We complained to HOTWIRE, and to my delight, were awarded $251.61 "hot Bucks"!!! This was 1/2 of what we paid for our trip (after taxes and fees). The property was a disappointment, but Hotwire's response was completely unexpected and wildly appreciated. We've been doing this for many years and have never had such a strong response from HOTWIRE! Link to comment
