Priceline Hotel: Having a backup hotel question

Hi, new to all this, and I've had a good read around, and planning on bidding for a 4 star hotel, for 4 nights (Wed - Sun) in March in NYC, hopefully in the Times Square area.

Anyway, I've got a booking at the Marriott Marquis ($359pn) for all 4 nights, just in case. Would I be better booking 2 x 2 nights stays or will I be ok with my 4 day booking as a backup? I don't really want to be changing hotels mid trip, but if I can save some money, then I'd do it.

Thanks for any help and tips.

Rates are not particularly high for these dates (they're not 'dirt cheap' either) but i don't think splitting will save you too much. How much would you need to save to make splitting worthwhile? I'd first try bidding for the complete stay, and based upon an preliminary search i think you can do much better than your back-up.

What is your budget for this stay? Let us know and i'll give you my thoughts and we'll take it from there.

Thanks for your comments. The reason I was looking to stay in the Times Square area is because I'm seeing some shows in the evening, and it's central. I stayed at the Westin last month and found it very convenient. Maybe I should look at other areas. Stayed at the Four Points Chelsea in March, not a bad area too, just more travelling in the evenings.

Budget wise, anything less than what the normal rate would cost me, as that's what I'd pay anyway.

For your dates HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the Times Square District (Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa) for $225/nite which matches what has previously been reported the Westin. If correct, this hotel is selling for $400+ per nite on the Westin.

Would you like to go with this or try to bid on priceline for this stay? If you'd like to bid which zone(s) are you willing to accept?

Hi,

Thanks for the tip about what is likely to be the Westin. I stayed there in Nov, in a deluxe corner room and it was acceptable, except for double charging my credit card, but they put it back a few days later. Will have a look round HOTWIRE when I get home and let you know what I settle for. I just wish I could make a decision!

Sometimes you can get a different hotel to be offered by changing the occupancy (since some hotels don't appear when searching for more than double occupancy) but since the 4* hotel currently offered on HOTWIRE is $300+ i don't think you're currently going to get the Westin to appear by changing the occupancy.
