fox8592
New to Better Bidding, but have been researching this site plus the bidding process with PL (thru SavingsBarn.com of course!). Need a rental car in Miami 12/26 - 12/30. Need a car for at least 5 passengers, preferably 6. Have been watching HW and other sites for deals for 3 weeks. Economy cars start at $85/dy, which is way past my budget, and I need Premium or SUV ($115+/dy for both) (mini-vans don't seem to be available). Off site from airport doesn't work because flight gets in after most off site offices close. What is my best course of action? I'm afraid what I can afford will never be accepted! Any advice is most appreciated. Link to comment

fox8592
HOTWIRE - MIA, 12/26-12/3097/day for Premium127/dy for SUVis $55/dy possible? Link to comment
thereuare
You can try, but I doubt it would be successful. The rates above show that cars are in high demand, so why should a rental company give inventory at deep discounts if they can likely rent that car themselves for top dollar? fox8592
Totally agree, but am I stuck with renting at $127/dy? That total for 4 dys will be almost 3x the cost of the RT airfare to Miami!! What is best place to start if my budget is no more than $65-70 max? Link to comment
thereuare
Since you have time, you can try starting at $55 and increase by $5 every 72 hours. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
fox8592
Since you have time, you can try starting at $55 and increase by $5 every 72 hours.Made a bid on PL for $69 for Minivan. Message returned that PL could not find any Name Your Own Price vehicle for date and time of request [12/26, 6pm - 12/30, 5:30p]. Could not go Back on browser so had to quit and go thru SavingsBarn.com again.Made a second bid on PL for $70 for SUV. Same message returned - could not find any.....But of course their matrix came up with one company with a minivan, and several with SUVs available to reserve.Do you know why there are no "biddable" vehicles available? Does this happen regularly? Thanks for your advice. Link to comment
thereuare
Could just be that no availability or, as discussed above, peak demand and car rental companies know that they'll be able to rent their entire fleet themselves. iamfrugal
We tried to bid for a car during this exact time frame last year in fort lauderdale and were told that ALL cars were in fact sold out for the holidays. So it could be the same in miami. Link to comment
fox8592
Thanks for your help. I suspect as mentioned earlier, that they can command top dollar so no bid will be accepted, so we're going to have to find some other alternatives! I will keep looking, though! Link to comment
